The latest trailer for Capcom’s upcoming game “Onimusha: Way of the Sword” has unintentionally disclosed a striking resemblance between the protagonist and the portrayal of the renowned Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, as portrayed by actor Toshiro Mifune, according to GamesRadar.
In various iconic films directed by Akira Kurosawa, such as the groundbreaking Rashomon and Yojimbo, we find Mifune. The portrayal of Miyamoto Musashi in these films is based on a series of movies produced by Hiroshi Inagaki.
Back when I was a kid, Mifune Toshiro graciously allowed his image to be used for characters in timeless films and even in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. However, it’s important to note that he’s no longer with us, having passed away in 1997 at the age of 77. Sadly, we won’t get to hear his iconic voice in any future projects.
Initially revealed during The Game Awards in December, “Onimusha: Way of the Sword” is a revival of the long-quiet “Onimusha” series. This franchise had been inactive until recently, when it started to show signs of activity again through the remastering of its original game and an anime adaptation.
As a gaming enthusiast, I recently caught a sneak peek at the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The trailer offered fleeting glances into its visuals and a taste of some fast-paced combat sequences. Continuing with the series’ legacy, this new installment will immerse us in an authentic Japanese atmosphere where we’ll be battling waves of demons in thrilling hand-to-hand fights.
In the latest trailer, we get a detailed glimpse of Miyamoto Musashi as our main character, and it hints that he’ll somehow be connected to the Oni Gauntlet. The atmosphere is darker and more authentic to Japan, with players expected to engage in intense close-quarter battles against numerous Genma enemies.
Although the trailer depicts some heavy scenes, it seems there might be moments of humor as well. For instance, Musashi, who boasts about his ability to tackle any obstacle, is shown fleeing when faced with an overwhelming number of foes, adding a touch of amusement to the serious tone.
The action game titled “Onimusha: Way of the Sword” is planned to be released in the year 2026. It is being developed for play on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, a revamped version of the second installment of the series, “Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny,” is coming out on May 23, 2023, which can be played on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
