Clipchamp, Microsoft’s complimentary video editing tool, is about to roll out some exciting new features. These include the option to toggle between a dark and light interface, enhanced asset organization for easier navigation, and a sleeker overall design. Additionally, the updated version will incorporate timestamp support for more accurate editing, making your video editing experience even smoother.
This month, users with a Clipchamp Personal account will start getting access to the latest Clipchamp features. On the other hand, those using a Work account can expect these new features in March. Microsoft made the announcement about these new features in their recent post on Tech Community.
The complete list of modifications Microsoft has introduced is provided below. What excites me most is the timestamp feature, which will make it simpler for me to edit videos destined for social media by allowing me to adjust their lengths and synchronize cuts with music. Moreover, I am delighted about the improved video editing experience that comes with these changes.
What is the best free video editor?
On Windows 11, Clipchamp serves as the built-in video editor. You can access it online too, and there’s even an iOS app available. However, Microsoft, who bought Clipchamp in 2021, hasn’t released an Android version yet.
Utilize Clipchamp, Microsoft’s user-friendly video editing tool, to craft your videos effortlessly with minimal learning requirements. Unlike complex editors like Da Vinci Resolve or premium options such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Clipchamp is designed for simplicity. As described on the Microsoft Store, this app allows you to produce videos quickly with just a few clicks.
For quite some time, I’ve been utilizing Clipchamp to create highlight clips for my American football team and stay abreast of the latest updates within the app. Its user interface, which allows for easy drag-and-drop editing, is reminiscent of video editing on a smartphone if that’s your usual platform.
Although it may not match the capabilities of other Windows 11 applications, this tool offers essential features for creating complex content, such as a layered timeline, green screen functionality, and subtitle generation. Additionally, it boasts AI templates and voice generation technology. While certain Clipchamp functions necessitate a paid subscription, the free version is robust and packed with features. If you possess a Microsoft 365 account, you’ll enjoy some additional benefits within Clipchamp.
For creating intricate videos packed with multiple components, I opt for Da Vinci Resolve. On the other hand, when I require a straightforward and minimalistic video editor for social media content creation, I lean towards using Clipchamp as my preferred choice. Depending on your specific workflow, Clipchamp could be an excellent free option for you.
Clipchamp: What’s new
Dark and light mode
Users have been eagerly asking for it, and now we’ve made it happen! Both dark and light modes offer a comfortable editing experience that caters to various tastes, whether you’re working in the day or at night. The Clipchamp interface will intelligently adapt to dark or light mode according to your device settings. Alternatively, you can adjust it manually by navigating to Settings > General.
Improved asset grouping
With the updated organization feature, you can now gather multiple elements like songs, text, and graphics together, turning them into a single track item for a cleaner timeline. Previously, grouping would only link chosen track items without altering their display. However, this fresh functionality streamlines the timeline design, enabling you to construct sections or chapters in your video effortlessly, rearrange them on the timeline with ease, and maintain all components within the group intact. Each group’s thumbnail indicates the type and quantity of elements it holds, and edits or deletions to visual items can still be made from the stage, ensuring a balanced blend of adaptability and orderliness during your editing process. To leverage this tool, simply select the items you wish to group, then right-click and choose Group.
A cleaner video editor
We’ve streamlined the editing process to create a user-friendly, straightforward environment that caters to beginners, allowing you to concentrate more on your creative endeavors rather than figuring out navigation. Key updates in our editor encompass simplifications such as:
1. Navigation made intuitive and effortless
2. A clean, uncluttered layout for improved focus
3. Easy-to-understand controls and options
4. Reduced complexity to minimize confusion
5. Quick access to essential tools for seamless workflow
6. Guidance and tips for new users to get started effectively
7. An interface that adapts to your skill level, providing more advanced features as you progress.
- Collapse the sidebar and timeline
- Zoom in and out in the timeline
- Use full screen mode playback
- Undo and redo actions
- Change the aspect ratio of a video
- Add AI captions to video
Precise editing in the timeline with timestamps
Editing timelines more precisely just got simpler with the incorporation of timestamps! When you hover your cursor over the timeline, it will reveal the timestamp for the specific point in the video. Meanwhile, shortening items from the left handle will instantly show the start time, and adjusting from the right handle will indicate the length of the clip.
