Josef Fares, the director of the upcoming cooperative title “Split Fiction” and creator of previous games such as “It Takes Two”, has expressed his opinion that Ubisoft should develop a split-screen cooperative game for local play. In an interview with GamesRadar, Fares emphasized that Ubisoft should pay more attention to the audience who seeks local co-op experiences.
Fares expressed surprise by the fact that other publishers haven’t considered making a split-screen-only game featuring Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell, considering the popularity of these games and the current struggles faced by Ubisoft. He hopes that someone from Ubisoft might listen to this discussion and consider this idea.
Fares, known for creating games that primarily focus on cooperative play, such as “A Way Out” and “It Takes Two,” has historically been an ardent advocate for teamwork in video games.
Don’t shy away from single-player mode; instead, label it as split-screen only.” He then emphasized the potential success of this decision, stating, “Bam! They’ll sell a massive number of copies if they do. Honestly, why don’t they consider this advice? It’s a guaranteed hit for them; Ubisoft, you can have it for free from me.
Back in December 2024, during The Game Awards, a captivating new title called “Split Fiction” was revealed. Similar to other masterpieces by Hazelight Studios, this game focuses on cooperative play, where you and another player will step into the shoes of characters named Zoe and Mio. In an intriguing twist, our characters find themselves trapped within each other’s virtual realities and must work together to decipher a way out.
In “Split Fiction,” the diverse stages are centered on the genres of science fiction and fantasy that appeal to Zoe and Mio, consistently requiring players to switch between action in sci-fi and fantasy games, offering a mix of platforming, combats, and intricate puzzle solving.
Lately, “Split Fiction” unveiled a captivating story trailer showcasing its narrative and characters. This trailer not only spotlights the plot but also underscores the fact that protagonists Zoe and Mio are both writers who need to collaborate to tackle their shared challenges effectively.
On March 6th, “Split Fiction” will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Earlier, the system requirements for the game were disclosed, and you can find more details about the necessary hardware here. Additionally, the studio has shared that “Split Fiction” has been certified as gold.
