Sabrina Carpenter’s Sly Nod to Ex Barry Keoghan in Dolly Parton Collab

Sabrina Carpenter warned Barry Keoghan—and she even said please, please, please.

After the conclusion of their relationship towards the end of last year, Sabrina subtly acknowledged the split in her recently released “Please Please Please” music video, which features Dolly Parton. This could indicate where Sabrina currently stands with the actor from Saltburn.

In the video for their latest duet with the country legend, it appears she continues the narrative from the initial release. As Dolly and Sabrina harmonize while driving a pickup truck, their performance is cut short by police sirens. The camera then reveals what they’ve got in the back of the vehicle – a man.

Deliberately or accidentally, the man, covered by a sack on his head, is dressed in a white tank top and black pants, strikingly similar to Keoghan’s attire from the initial song. Notably, Sabrina fans will recall that the first video concludes with the “Taste” singer binding Barry (age 32) with handcuffs, taping his mouth shut with duct tape, and then planting a kiss on him through the adhesive.

Sabrina, aged 25, consistently carries forward narratives across her videos. For instance, “Espresso,” launched in April, concludes with her being arrested, whereas “Please Please Please,” released in June, starts off with her getting bailed out of jail. This pattern also hints at the rocky aftermath of Sabrina’s breakup with her partner.

Shortly after their breakup made headlines, Barry, who has a 2-year-old son named Brando with ex Alyson Sandro, asked his supporters for understanding as he faced criticism from Sabrina’s fans regarding the alleged reason for their separation.

The actor from ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ stated on X Dec 7, ‘I can no longer remain silent as my reputation has been maligned online beyond what I typically ignore. Now, I must speak up because the boundaries are being overstepped excessively.’

He went on to say, “The communications I’ve been given are ones that no one ought to be exposed to. They’re filled with blatant falsehoods, hateful rhetoric, offensive remarks about my looks, personality, parenting skills, and just about every cruel thing you can conceive of.

In response to the breakup, Sabrina has opted for a more reserved approach, but it’s possible that her song “Please Please Please” offers some insight into her feelings.

Many people don’t share the same enthusiasm for Sabrina Carpenter’s fondness for intricate lace and explicit lyrics in her songs. In fact, music producer Pete Waterman criticized her live performances as being blatantly “inappropriate.

In January 2025, Waterman stated, “Women have achieved all their liberties and rights. They struggled to gain them, but now, it seems to me, they are carelessly relinquishing what they’ve worked so hard for.

And in her response, the Girl Meets World alum did not hold back.

In the interview she gave to The Sun on Sunday, Sabrina expressed that her message has been consistent: “If you’re uncomfortable with a woman who embraces her own sexuality, then it might be best to avoid attending my performances.

She went on to say, “Female artists have faced public shaming for a long time. For instance, in the 2000s it was Rihanna, in the 1990s it was Britney Spears, and in the 1980s it was Madonna – now it’s my turn.

To those labeling Sabrina’s famed “Juno” postures and explicit lyrics as “lazy,” Sabrina responded to their “outdated” views.

In response to critics who deemed Sabrina’s popular “Juno” poses and suggestive lyrics as “uninspired,” Sabrina challenged their “old-fashioned” perspectives.

The pop star clarified to The Sun that her criticism is about limiting how female performers express their sexuality, whether it’s in their lyrics, choice of attire, or stage performance. She noted that these critics remain silent when she discusses topics like self-care, body positivity, or heartbreak – all typical experiences for a 25-year-old. Instead, they only seem interested in commenting on the sexual aspects of her performances.

Throughout Sabrina’s “Short n’ Sweet” Tour, some social media commentators expressed doubts about whether the performer known as the “Espresso” singer was genuinely singing live during her performances.

In a TikTok video posted in October 2024, someone commented, “I don’t like to admit it, but it seems that the performance is 30% lip syncing, 30% backing track, and 40% actual singing.

The Disney alum, however, was quick to shoot down the claims.

Sabrina asserted in her comment that she always sings live, one hundred percent. Would you be interested in talking to my sound engineers?

It doesn’t take many words for the Grammy nominee to silence her haters.

In June 2024, an online enthusiast expressed dissatisfaction towards Sabrina’s popular song “Please Please Please.

The user expressed, on what was once known as Twitter, “It’s rare to see someone mess up a simple follow-up hit like this.” They added, in amazement, “Wow!

Once her song hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, she shared a pair of screenshots displaying the rankings along with heartfelt comments, simply captioned “I’m so incredibly thankful, thankful, thankful.

After facing criticism over her “Feather” music video shot inside the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (where she had obtained permission to film), Sabrina’s account of events varied from that presented by Msgr. Jamie J. Gigantiello in his official statement.

According to the pastor’s declaration from November 2023, the parish failed to adhere to the diocesan policy concerning filming on church grounds. This policy involves a careful examination of the scenes and script prior to filming.

But Sabrina refuted his claims with one simple sentence.

“We got approval in advance,” Sabrina quipped to Variety at the time, “and Jesus was a carpenter.”

During a performance at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in September 2024, Sabrina hinted that her “Feather” music video controversy had been involved in Eric Adams’ federal investigation as New York mayor at the time. The cleric who authorized Sabrina’s “Feather” music video, despite claiming he was unaware of its explicit content, faced demotion which triggered a wider administrative review of the parish.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it like this: In a recent interview, the diocese shared with the New York Post that there might be a link between our local parish and the mayor regarding business transactions between the pastor and high-ranking officials within his embattled administration. (It’s important to note that these allegations stem from charges of bribery and wire fraud against the mayor, which he has denied by pleading not guilty.)

And to that, Sabrina said, “Should we talk about how I got the mayor indicted or…”
