In a fresh twist, the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy titled “La Dolce Villa” features Scott Foley portraying a prosperous entrepreneur named Eric. This character journeys to Italy with the intention of preventing his daughter from squandering her funds on renovating an old and dilapidated villa.
Initially, he wasn’t expecting it, but eventually, he became deeply entwined with the nation, its customs, and its inhabitants in a manner that sparked the possibility of love.
The movie, directed by Mark Waters (of Mean Girls fame), offers a mix of romance, humor, and breathtaking visuals thanks to its beautiful Italian backdrops. However, one may wonder, where exactly was this film shot?
Read on for everything you need to know about the locations used for filming on La Dolce Villa.
La Dolce Villa location guide: Where was the movie filmed?

In the movie, most of the outdoor scenes were filmed mainly in Tuscany, focusing on two quaint towns, San Quirico d’Orcia and Pienza.
In recent times, Tuscany has emerged as a popular location for filming, featuring in series like Emily in Paris with its stunning backdrops.
The area consists of numerous townships nestled among undulating hills, with scenes of these frequently appearing in the movie.
Waters informed Tudum about filming locations: “We selected these cities since they perfectly embodied the appearance and size we imagined for Montezara.
Although it may not reach the size of Siena or Montepulciano, it would still be substantial enough to accommodate a town square and eateries. One could even imagine that such a place might boast a mayor.
In the movie, scenes filmed at the main villa were captured not far from the town of San Gregorio da Sassola, located approximately 45 minutes east of Rome. This was done at the Torrino dei Gelsi Farm and Resort, which is outside the town.
Although the interior scenes were shot at another location, the resort stands in for the external view of the villa in all exterior shots.

The villa’s interior scenes, together with all other interior shots seen in the film, were actually filmed on a soundstage located within Cinecittà Studios in Rome.
Cinecitta stands as the most extensive movie production facility in Europe, boasting a rich history of filming iconic productions like La Dolce Vita, Gangs of New York, Once Upon a Time in America, and television series such as Doctor Who and The Decameron on its grounds.
In addition, a different setting featured in the movie is the Roma Trastevere Railway Station, where we first meet Eric at the beginning. Interestingly, this scene was filmed at the actual station, situated in southeast Rome.

Simultaneously, the film’s frequent depiction of an old archival room is set in Montepulciano, a town where centuries-old documents from the 1300s are indeed kept.
Robyn Snyder, the producer, expressed her gratitude and excitement stating that they felt fortunate just to have been given permission to film there, let alone being able to capture footage in a location rich with genuine historical significance.
