The much-anticipated beta testing of Elden Ring Nightreign, the cooperative roguelike spin-off from FromSoftware based on their highly acclaimed 2022 action RPG, which is set for release on May 30, commenced on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 during its inaugural playtest session on Friday. However, things didn’t go as smoothly as hoped, to put it mildly.
The initial hour of the game test appeared to go smoothly for most users, but issues arose after that. Many players encountered an “Unable to connect to game server” message on the main menu or were disconnected during gameplay with a “Lost connection to game server” notification. FromSoftware acknowledged the problem and attempted to resolve it by restarting the servers and conducting maintenance, yet neither solution proved effective.
The initial ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN Network Test has concluded. We’re sorry for any trouble due to server issues during your gameplay experience. Currently, efforts are being made to enhance the Network Test’s stability. Additional Network Test sessions might be planned. Thanks for your patience!
The initial run of the Elden Ring: Night Reign Network Test has concluded. We sincerely apologize for any trouble you may have experienced due to server issues. At present, we are actively working to boost the test’s stability. A possibility of another Network Test session is under consideration. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
February 14, 2025.
Despite the structure of the beta test, major server issues like these would be irritating in any scenario. However, they’re especially aggravating given that playtime is extremely limited in this case. Unlike many betas which usually offer players continuous 24-hour access during testing, Elden Ring Nightreign’s network test this weekend only provides a few three-hour slots for fans to play. Specifically, there are only five such windows, and the ones that are convenient for European players – February 14th from 11am-2pm PT / 2pm-5pm ET / 7pm-10pm GT and February 15th from 3am-6am PT / 6am-9am ET / 11am-2pm GMT – are limited. This first test, therefore, seems less ideal for those in Europe.
The developer, FromSoftware, has hinted at possibly conducting an extra test to address the server issues mentioned earlier. However, it is uncertain whether this additional test will indeed occur today or not, as official confirmation from the developers is needed.
By the way, the Elden Ring subreddit is incredibly active at the moment, filled with users either expressing frustration or sharing humorous content due to frequent disconnections while trying to access Nightreign. Interestingly enough, some users have employed humor to convey that identifying and resolving issues such as these is exactly the purpose of betas and server tests like these.
Nightreign Network Testers When the Network isn’t Working: from r/Eldenring
It’s crucial to remember that perspective is key here, and it’s clear FromSoftware feels as much pain as players over the network test issues. I genuinely hope they organize an additional play session, giving those who missed out due to server problems a second chance.
This upcoming game, Elden Ring Nightreign, seems set to rank among the top Xbox and PC titles for those who enjoy intense action in a roguelike setting, with combat and weaponry similar to Elden Ring, as well as numerous bosses reminiscent of FromSoftware’s Souls-style series. I can’t wait to dive into it tonight, as the original Elden Ring is one of my all-time favorite games, and the second playtest starts at 7pm-10pm PT / 10pm-1am ET / 3am-6am GMT.
You can now pre-order Elden Ring: Nightreign across various platforms like Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC, PS5, and PS4. The game carries an MSRP of $39.99, which is $20 cheaper than Elden Ring itself. However, you can secure a copy of the PC version for even less at Fanatical, with a special offer pricing it at $35.19!
