Following Capcom’s announcement of a new version of Okami, helmed by Hideki Kamiya and developed by the freshly established Clovers, there has been an abundance of inquiries. Although the company verified its creation on RE Engine, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi additionally disclosed to IGN that the narrative carries on from the original game’s storyline.
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that the main character, Amaterasu, is making a comeback. While this might be clear from the trailer, some might have had doubts due to Okamiden featuring her son Chibiterasu. As for whether the 2010 Nintendo DS sequel will be recognized, Hirabayashi stated, “We are certainly aware that there are fans who appreciate the game.
We are aware of the reactions towards the game’s narrative from the community, noticing that certain aspects may not have met expectations. With this in mind, the sequel we now have is a direct continuation of the original Ōkami‘s story as previously mentioned. This is how we will describe it.
It’s looking likely that the sequel will primarily revolve around Amaterasu, yet characters from Okamiden may still be mentioned. However, since the sequel is only just beginning its development, it could be quite a while before updates are shared. As Hirabayashi put it, “We might need to wait a bit longer before we can discuss it further.
At The Game Awards, approximately 18 years following the initial launch of Okami on PlayStation 2, a new installment in the series was unveiled. As of now, neither a release date nor the platforms it will be available on have been announced.
