It appears that Netflix’s latest film has climbed to the number one spot, yet it’s stirring up quite a conversation among viewers. Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes hint at this, and the top posts on the Netflix Reddit page this week are criticizing the movie for being “inappropriate” and “garbage.” It’s not the first time that Netflix’s most popular film doesn’t necessarily align with their best-rated one. Though this new Netflix film is undeniably leading the pack, there’s no question that it falls short of being the finest movie available on Netflix.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’ve found myself captivated by the buzz surrounding “Kinda Pregnant,” the latest Netflix sensation, which boasts double the viewership of its closest competitor on the streaming giant. Starring the charismatic Amy Schumer and directed by Tyler Spindel, this film co-written by Julie Paiva made its debut on Netflix on February 5, 2025.
Given Amy’s star power and Netflix’s aggressive promotional campaign, it’s no surprise that viewers are flocking to this exclusive Netflix production. However, judging from the online chatter, it appears that the new comedy is not resonating as expected with many of its viewers.
Kinda Pregnant hasn’t been well-received by critics or viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. On this platform, it has a critic score of just 24% and a user score of 25%, which is quite low for any film, particularly one that’s sitting at the top of Netflix’s streaming charts. This aligns with what Netflix subscribers are discussing on Reddit.
I’ve only been watching this Netflix movie for 15 minutes, but already I’m feeling a bit uncomfortable due to some explicit content. Specifically, Amy Schumer’s dialogue in the classroom scene seems inappropriate and unfunny to me, as it involves sexually explicit talk with minors. Does anyone else feel the same way? I thought I was alone in finding this scene disturbing.
This popular post seems to indicate that it’s not an unusual opinion, and many of its comments mirror that feeling. Furthermore, another highly-rated post on Reddit this week critically calls out a new Netflix comedy film as “trash.”
In this version, I aimed to maintain the original meaning while making the sentence structure more conversational and easier to read. The revised sentence provides an overview of the situation, followed by additional supporting evidence, which mirrors the structure of the original sentence but in a more natural way.
Titled “Somewhat Pregnant,” now streaming on Netflix, I found the content utterly unbearable – it’s as if an E-grade Adam Sandler production had taken over, featuring a preposterously absurd storyline that stretches credibility to its limits and characters so bizarrely conceived they seem alien to human nature. Remarkably, Amy Schumer played a part in penning the script, which suggests either poor judgment or an unexpected decline in her writing skills. To put it bluntly, it’s appalling. I endured approximately 30 minutes before turning it off, both physically and metaphorically. If this production is any indication, Schumer appears to be experiencing a creative slump of considerable proportions.
In the realm of exclusive content, “Kinda Pregnant” can be found exclusively streaming on Netflix, with no signs pointing towards a shift in its streaming platform anytime soon. For those subscribed to services like HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock and more, it appears they aren’t missing out on much regarding this title.
