With “Thunderbolts”* on the horizon, this character’s appearance in “Brave New World” offers insight into their new function in a world where the actions of super-powered individuals are shaping the future of the Avengers and American superheroes, raising concerns about their behavior.

Fast forward to the unfolding events of Brave New World, the discovery of adamantium within Tiamut’s remains significantly altered the global political scenario, with numerous countries staking their claims on this highly valuable resource. Seizing the opportunity to prevent potential military disputes, President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) proposed a groundbreaking international cooperation initiative aimed at equitably distributing this metallic treasure among nations worldwide.
In this delicate diplomatic scenario, Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson), also known as The Leader, spots an ideal chance to undermine Ross’s reputation. Utilizing advanced mental manipulation tech, Sterns influences American fighter pilots positioned close to Celestial Island, prompting them to carry out a surprise attack on Japanese ships patrolling the region. This aggressive action could undo Ross’s peace talks and spark a wider global conflict. Consequently, Sam Wilson feels compelled to act, joining forces with his partner and protege, Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), to address this escalating situation.
The situation deteriorates drastically when Torres, trying to thwart the pilots under mind control from reaching their objectives, gets hit by a missile and severely injured. In the hospital, Sam stands guard as Juaquin goes through surgery. During this critical time, Bucky Barnes appears to lend support to his friend. At the same time, Sam begins to question his decision to forgo enhancement, considering if super-soldier abilities could have prevented Torres’ injuries. In this moment of turmoil, Bucky, drawing from his own complicated past with enhancement, encourages Sam that his human limitations make him an inspiration, demonstrating that people can be heroes simply through courage and conviction. Their discussion also hints at Bucky’s new role as a Congressman, providing insight into the plotline of Thunderbolts.
From Winter Soldier to Washington: Bucky’s Evolution Shapes the Thunderbolts* Future
The rise of Bucky as a political player takes on greater depth when considering the continued machinations of CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, portrayed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Since her debut in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier“, she has strategically amassed power through a sequence of well-thought-out decisions. In the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” it became more evident that Valentina was driven by ambitious goals, particularly in obtaining vibranium for the U.S. Her tenacity reached a climax when she apprehended her former spouse, Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), for resisting these strategies and leaking information to Wakanda. This trend of exploiting personal ties and global politics persists in the new trailer for “Thunderbolts,” where Valentina presents at a congressional hearing discussing America’s security requirements. Close by Valentina is Bucky, who we now suspect may be collaborating with her on political matters.
It’s plausible that Bucky’s suspected partnership with Valentina might shed light on certain scenes from the Thunderbolts‘ trailers. We understand that the other members of this anti-hero team come together by chance in a hidden facility. Additionally, it’s expected that at some point, Bucky will track down the Thunderbolts members before they officially form a team. Given his new Congressman role, Bucky might be assisting Valentina in gathering enhanced individuals to fill the void left by the Avengers’ absence in the world.
It’s unclear whether Bucky is assisting Valentina in making her program or role official, or if he’s keeping an eye on her aspirations. Regardless, it will be intriguing to observe how he manages his fresh political duties alongside his skills as a superhero.
