Katie Thurston Reveals Shocking Breast Cancer Diagnosis

The Bachelorette alum Katie Thurston has been fighting a private heath battle.

The 34-year-old has shared a life update, writing on her Instagram, “I have breast cancer.”

Yesterday, Thurston posted about all the couples sharing their Valentine’s Day celebrations on February 15th. To be honest, it made me envious. Jeff had planned a trip to Hawaii for us, followed by traveling the world together before settling down in New York City. However, instead of celebrating Valentine’s Day, I spent mine arranging housing as I need to return to Los Angeles for more tests and treatment.

Thurston, who made her engagement to comedian Jeff Arcuri, 36, public in September, went on to say, “I spent my morning delving into insurance matters for NYC and studying the regulations regarding preexisting conditions. I arranged consultations for another biopsy, fertility treatments, mental health assessments, surgery, and meetings with my healthcare team to discuss the comprehensive treatment plan, which will involve chemotherapy.

Yesterday, Thurston posted about all the couples sharing their Valentine’s Day celebrations. To be truthful, it made me envious. Originally, Jeff had planned to take me to Hawaii, followed by traveling the world together before settling down in NYC. However, on this Valentine’s Day, I was busy arranging a new place to live as I need to return to LA for further tests and treatment.

Thurston, who made her engagement to comedian Jeff Arcuri, 36, public in September, went on to say, “I spent my morning sorting out insurance matters for New York City and studying laws regarding preexisting conditions. I arranged consultations for another biopsy, fertility, mental health, surgery, and meetings with my team to discuss the overall treatment plan, which will involve chemotherapy.

The Bachelor alum said she has “experienced a range of emotions over the past two weeks.”

She expressed feelings of despair, anger, sadness, and denial, followed by newfound strength, determination, and readiness. I shed many tears. I attempted to create a video instead of this post but couldn’t. However, one thing I did early on was seek out stories similar to mine – young women battling breast cancer, specifically invasive ductal carcinoma, who had undergone mastectomies and were pregnant after their battle with the disease. Reading about their experiences provided me comfort.

She went on to say, “I plan to offer the same support to others. Today marks the beginning of my sharing journey, which I expect will be lengthy. The initial acknowledgment and acceptance of my own reality was the most challenging. However, I’m prepared to battle through it.

Later on, Thurston acknowledged her future spouse. “Saving the best for the end,” she penned. “To my incredible soon-to-be husband @jarcuri – I can’t imagine doing this without you. The selfless affection you shower me with is more than I ever thought I’d be fortunate enough to receive. I love you completely, in this life and the one to come.
