Trixie Takes Charge: Call the Midwife’s Helen George Reveals Character’s Transformation

In the start of Call the Midwife’s fourteenth season, Trixie assumed a thrilling and significant new position concurrently with her midwifery duties. This experience, as described by Helen George, seems to have allowed Trixie to truly express herself and grow more confident in her abilities.

Following Sister Julienne’s statement that the Board of Health was essentially threatening Nonnatus House, she looked to Trixie for assistance in preventing their establishment from closing, a task that Trixie took on immediately and wholeheartedly.

It’s evident that the part Trixie was destined for was this one, as upon her gathering with those in charge, she brought word that they would carry on battling.

“It’s like she’s sort of come into her own and she’s realised her worth,” said the actor.

She’s putting up a strong fight and expressing a more masculine side, which is reflected in her style too, and it’s quite captivating to see.

We aimed to reflect her assertive and powerful presence in her professional life through her attire. The way she confidently navigates meetings with strong male counterparts inspired us. We believe we managed to capture this essence in the design of her power suits.

Megan Cusack chimed in, adding that there’s “strength in clothing”.

“Strong. Yeah, exactly,” agreed George. “The shoulder pads are bigger, the lapels are bigger.”

For Trixie, it’s refreshing indeed as she navigated through quite a turbulent phase last season, mainly because of Matthew’s financial woes leading to his move to New York, which is where he currently resides.

She replied with a curious tone, “I wonder what will unfold! As of now, I’m clueless about it, but I can’t wait to discover the outcome!

For the remaining characters, the upcoming episode’s sneak peek indicates lots of exciting events unfolding. For instance, Joyce is set to learn the date for her disciplinary hearing, while there’s a significant twist coming up for May Turner – something that actress Laura Main has previously suggested.

“I just want everything to be OK with May,” she said. “I really, really do.

I truly adore these kids, as well as collaborating with these actors. They are an exceptional group, and I can’t help but secretly wish everything is alright with them.

“And yes, of course, we are still technically fostering her, so there is always that concern.”

The main person continued by hinting that there would be “a bit more of the same” in this series, but she didn’t elaborate on specifics about what to expect.

Apologies, fellow viewers! This week, I won’t be sharing my thoughts on “Call the Midwife” as scheduled. Instead, it’s time for the glitz and glamour of the BAFTA Film Awards taking center stage! The season’s penultimate episode has been moved to Sunday, 23rd February, to make room for this grand cinematic event. So, let’s celebrate our film industry while eagerly waiting for more midwife adventures soon!
