Sensational Pop Duo YOASOBI Returns for Spring 2025’s Most Anticipated Anime
With the highly-anticipated debut of Witch Watch‘s anime, excitement among fans has reached new heights. Now, the series has attracted one of Japan’s top J-pop artists for its opening theme – YOASOBI! This dynamic duo gained massive popularity in recent years following the release of their hit single Racing into the Night in 2019. Since then, they have been featured in numerous successful anime series like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Oshi no Ko, Beastars, and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch of Mercury.
YOASOBI consistently delivers high-energy performances, thanks to Lilas Ikuta’s strong vocals and Ayase’s captivating arrangements. Their upcoming opening theme song for “Witch Watch”, titled “Watch me!“, follows suit. Interestingly, Ayase himself is a fan of the anime series “Sket Dance” by Kento Shinohara, which adds to his excitement about this collaboration. In his own words, Ayase says, “We are YOASOBI and we’ll be performing the opening theme song, ‘Watch me‘! I, Ayase, am not only a fan of ‘Witch Watch’, but also Kenta Shinohara’s work, ‘Sket Dance’. So, it was an honor to be asked to contribute to this project.
Ayase shared some behind-the-scenes details about the creation of the opening theme’s lyrics, expressing that they were written to emphasize the pure romantic feelings of the Witch Watch protagonist, Nico Wakatsuki, towards her childhood friend Morihito Otogi. Ayase confessed a fondness for Nico as a character and felt that the song captured Nico’s endearing qualities. Based on YOASOBI’s remarks and a sneak peek of the opening theme in the latest trailer, it appears the theme will be incredibly popular when Witch Watch premieres this Spring, further fueling excitement among series fans.
Don’t forget to check out Witch Watch when it releases on April 6th, 2025!
