Days Gone Fans Have New Hope for Days Gone 2 After Remaster Announcement

Enthusiasts of the PlayStation game “Days Gone” are optimistic that a sequel, “Days Gone 2,” might materialize due to the unveiling of a PS5 remaster. Earlier speculations in 2024 were quashed by PlayStation, but during its recent State of Play event, it was confirmed that “Days Gone Remastered” is indeed under development and slated for release on PS5 this April. This decision by PlayStation seems peculiar given their earlier dissatisfaction with the performance of “Days Gone,” leading to their rejection of Bend Studio’s proposal for a sequel. However, despite previous encouragement to forget about “Days Gone 2,” this revamped version of the original game has only fueled renewed anticipation.

Following the announcement of the remastered version of “Days Gone”, enthusiasts on the game’s official subreddit have been brainstorming about potential implications for “Days Gone 2”. Some members suggested buying the remastered edition, reasoning that Sony might be more inclined to approve a sequel if it demonstrates strong sales. Others pointed out that the remaster itself indicates Sony acknowledges the game’s dedicated fanbase built since its initial release. This could suggest that they aim to expand this audience with the remaster and potentially set the stage for a sequel.

User niddLerzK exclaimed, “This is fantastic!” They aren’t certain if everyone shares their sentiment, but if Days Gone is being remastered, there could be a chance for Days Gone 2. If the remastered version sells well on [PlayStation], they will likely create the sequel. I’m definitely planning to purchase it.

As a passionate fan myself, I can’t help but emphasize the significance of this situation: “It doesn’t seem like folks fully grasp the magnitude; this could potentially reignite the conversation for ‘Days Gone 2’!” exclaimed CMenFairy6661. “Why would Sony invest in a remaster of a game they supposedly have little faith in? They understand that it garnered a dedicated fanbase, and if the Remaster outperforms the original release, I believe they might reconsider their stance. Admittedly, charging for an upgrade on a game Sony has seemingly ignored may seem excessive, but if it provides evidence of our desire for more from this series, I’d gladly shell out the money again.

If Sony PlayStation were to consider a sequel for Days Gone 2, it appears that Bend Studio might have the perfect opportunity to work on this project right now. In the last month, news surfaced that Bend’s upcoming game, which was intended to be live-service oriented, was cancelled by Sony after years of development. With no current projects on their plate, Bend Studio seems to be free, making it possible for them to focus on creating Days Gone 2.

Despite the possibility of a Days Gone sequel, several crucial creatives who worked on the original game at Bend Studio have moved on from the company. Notably, directors John Garvin and Jeff Ross left Bend in late 2020 due to disappointment over Days Gone 2 not being approved. Consequently, the current management at Bend might not be keen on a Days Gone sequel because it was a project championed by past leadership.

No matter what’s in store for Days Gone down the line, it’s confirmed that Days Gone Remastered is coming to PS5 on April 25th, which isn’t too far away. For those who currently own the original Days Gone on PS4, an upgrade to the remastered version will cost just $10.
