2025 finds me in an unusual position as an Xbox enthusiast. Despite a decline in hardware sales, Microsoft has chosen a multi-platform approach, which means that their exclusive games like Forza Horizon 5, Age of Mythology: Retold, and the updated Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will also be available on platforms such as PS5 and Nintendo Switch. It’s an intriguing shift, and with whispers of more titles to follow, I’m eagerly anticipating what the future holds for my gaming experiences.
It appears that Microsoft isn’t abandoning hardware development. According to Jez Corden from Windows Central, the design for the next-generation Xbox console has progressed beyond its initial concept stages and received approval and cost estimates all the way up the corporate ladder. While he doesn’t foresee a reveal happening soon, this information supports Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer’s statement that the company intends to produce more consoles in the future.
While Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has shown no immediate interest in a mid-generation console update, previous rumors suggest that the upcoming next-gen Xbox may include a companion device. Unlike the Xbox Series S, this secondary device is said to resemble handheld consoles like the Steam Deck. Spencer later confirmed that prototypes were being developed; however, it might be several years before any definitive information becomes available (assuming it ever reaches the market).
