Actress Aimee Lou Wood, known for her role in “The White Lotus,” has dismissed similarities drawn between her current part and the one that made her famous in the Netflix series “Sex Education.
This season of Mike White’s satirical series finds her portraying the lively and hopeful character of Chelsea, a hotel guest vacationing in Thailand alongside her older partner, Rick (played by Walton Goggins), for their holiday.
Earlier, she portrayed the vibrant, sociable, and creative character Aimee Gibbs in Sex Education. Throughout the series’ four seasons, Aimee proved to be a devoted friend to Maeve (Emma Mackey) and was adored by viewers across the show.
She said, “Instead of being similar to Aimee Gibbs, she’s more like Aimee Wood. It’s quite amusing since, as performers, we often find ourselves reflected in our characters.
Wood explained: “It seems that Aimee and Chelsea are similar to me, as they represent various aspects of myself. This is because I enjoy showcasing diverse parts of me through the characters I play.
I believe they both share an upbeat outlook, yet fundamentally, I perceive them as distinct individuals.
Wood remarked, “It turned out well for me that Mike had never watched Sex Education before, as he wasn’t familiar with any of my performances in that series. Consequently, everything was up for grabs during the audition process. In truth, I believe this was beneficial.
I didn’t take it as offensive in any way, nor did I expect him to have seen it. Quite frankly, I felt liberated by this, as it enabled me to feel at ease on the set, almost as if I were simply being myself – just like Chelsea.
The actor stated: “She’s clueless about why she’s there and unaware of The White Lotus resort. It was incredibly useful for me to simply say, ‘Alright, I can’t know what The White Lotus, the series, is – I just need to be here and focus on being present.’
