BBC Radio Scotland host, Janice Forsyth, has chosen to leave her position following a medical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
For more than three decades, this radio broadcaster has been a fixture on stations such as BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Four, and BBC Radio Three. Throughout her career, she has helmed programs like the Culture Show (later known as the Janice Forsyth Show) on BBC Radio Scotland and the Afternoon Show from 2013 to 2024.
In an announcement made today (17th February), Forsyth shared that he had initially attributed his fatigue to his long career as a freelance broadcaster and the passing of their mother, Patricia, around Christmas last year. However, after further medical evaluation, it appears he has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Although this setback has been significant, I’m finding solace in understanding the reasons behind my past inconsistencies. Mostly, I’ve been able to keep a positive outlook throughout.

Aside from my radio duties, I have also ventured into other endeavors. I am one of the co-founders of a podcast production company, contribute as a columnist, and serve as the chair for the Rothesay Pavilion charity.
Her comment went on: “Just as I’ve taken joy in discovering and passing on the finest in music, literature, theater, and cinema to you, it brings me happiness now to savor them purely for my own satisfaction.
You’re not too far off if you put it as “I strive to live fully present, and I always tried to give my all. I didn’t take my responsibilities lightly, whether it was for your benefit or the people I interviewed.
It was a lot of fun, and I’d like to give a virtual thumbs-up to all those who joined us during Saturday mornings or the newer weekday afternoons for some engaging content.
Louise Thornton, the chief of programming at BBC Scotland, commented: “Janice has been a much-loved figure on our radio and television stations for quite some time.
Over various teams she’s worked with have admired the exceptional talent she brings to her role as a radio and TV host.
Through her charming demeanor, casual conversation approach, and unrivaled expertise on arts, music, and cultural aspects, not only in Scotland but also worldwide, she has earned the enduring admiration of viewers for many years.
At BBC Scotland, we extend our warmest wishes to Janice for her future endeavors. We look forward to finding more chances where our paths may cross again in a collaborative setting.
