Candice Bergen is mourning the loss of her husband Marshall Rose.
On February 15, during the early morning hours, the property magnate and generous contributor to charitable causes passed away due to issues related to Parkinson’s disease. He was a remarkable 88 years old.
His online obituary stated that he lived a life worthy of imitation, consistently demonstrating a blend of natural authority, swift wit, and genuine admiration for every person he encountered. This combination made him an exceptional and captivating leader.
In the eulogy, it was stated that Marshall was a loving father and grandfather who held great aspirations for those in his life. Reminiscent of this, he also took on the role of a caring ‘dog-father’ towards his cherished goldendoodle Jerry, setting similar lofty standards. His family continues to embody his traits of deep compassion, tenacious determination, and unwavering support for the Knicks. The wisdom, fortitude, and selfless nature of his spirit will be forever etched in the hearts of the many whose lives he positively impacted.
Rose and Bergen, having remarried each other in June 2000 after both losing their respective spouses, would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year. Interestingly, the love they found with one another was a second chance at happiness that Rose Brown (a character from Murphy Brown) never expected after her first husband, Louis Malle, passed away in 1995.
Three years without dating, Bergen found himself unwittingly matched with Rose, a setup orchestrated discreetly by the producers of 60 Minutes, namely Don Hewitt and his spouse Marilyn Berger.
Bergen revealed to CBS in 2015 that Marshall was involved. She explained, “Marshall and Marilyn invited me for dinner at their apartment, and then two days later, Marshall called and said there would be another man joining us – his name was Marshall Rose. I agreed, and when I met him, I thought to myself, ‘Hmm.’
Initially, she anticipated him to be “short and plump,” as she expressed. However, the Emmy-winning individual characterized him as a very attractive, confident gentleman instead. He had striking eyes that captivated her, and she found herself completely trusting him. By dessert, she was quite smitten with him, essentially won over by his charm.
In the evenings, they frequently enjoyed dining together and watching “The West Wing,” as the 78-year-old shared with the New York Times in 2020.
At that point, she remarked that her life feels quite modest now. Honestly, she’s content with it. Considering she’s in her seventies, she doesn’t view it as a misfortune.
