In a chat with PCGamer, via GamesRadar, the director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz of The Blood of Dawnwalker shares that while there are numerous optional activities for players to engage in, these choices could lead to severe repercussions. He also discusses how the game’s time limit will impact gameplay.
In “The Blood of Dawnwalker”, players are given a time constraint of 30 in-game days, which doesn’t correspond to real-time, but it’s essential for players to manage their time wisely as each task they undertake will have an in-game countdown approaching the deadline. This is similar to “The Witcher 3” players who decide to overlook the main storyline and instead focus on playing Gwent instead.
Tomaszkiewicz stated in the latest PCGamer issue that what he finds most significant is the creation of an intense sense of immediacy within games. This heightened sense of urgency can be amplified, as demonstrated in games like The Witcher 3 where you know Ciri needs aid, but choose to engage in Gwent instead. In such instances, you recognize that it’s a game and appreciate its quality, yet it still feels like more than just a game.
If you had a resource at hand and were aware that not attending might lead to an event – this perspective could significantly alter how you approach the game. It might even enhance the immersion and possibly elicit distinct emotions from you.
In a conversation, Daniel Sadowski, the design director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, discussed the game’s in-game time constraint. He assured players that they can enjoy exploring the game world at their leisure without feeling pressured by a strict deadline. However, the storyline will significantly underscore the importance of this time limit.
Sadowski mentioned that we aim to integrate the time system into the overall storyline and the ‘every action and inaction matters’ concept. This will result in an engaging dynamic where players will be compelled to make decisions at certain junctures, such as deciding what actions to take and which to let pass, and also choosing which content they want to focus on and which they can afford to overlook, in order to increase their chances of overcoming the main adversary.
However, you’ll have the freedom to select various strategies for tackling the issue, each of which fits seamlessly back into the storytelling environment.
Previously, the studio discussed a time constraint for the game on social media. In response to a fan’s query regarding the impact of this deadline on the gaming experience and exploration, the studio assured that no one should feel pressured to hurry through anything because there won’t be a strict time limit in place.
The game titled “The Blood of Dawnwalker” is being crafted at present for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Unfortunately, a specific release date hasn’t been announced just yet. For insights into the extent of freedom players can enjoy, take a look at the nuances of its magic system, which won’t rely on flashy effects, and how players may eliminate crucial NPCs that could potentially influence the main plot. The studio has hinted that it will take players approximately 30 to 40 hours to complete the storyline from start to finish.
