Although Dragon Ball Daimaou currently dominates the shonen genre, fans shouldn’t overlook Dragon Ball Super. After the sad demise of Akira Toriyama, it returned, and it’s delving into the past this time, focusing on Goten and Trunks transforming into costumed vigilantes. While the 104th chapter may not be building up to an apocalyptic showdown, it has introduced some significant alterations to the anime universe’s lore and, for the first time, confirmed that a character originally from the anime is now considered canonical.
The character under discussion is none other than Olibu, a human warrior who was frequently spotted during both the “Other World Tournament” and the Majin Buu Saga. Despite having passed away before the incidents in these storylines, Olibu was an “anime-only” figure who could hold his own in combat without being a Super Saiyan. In Dragon Ball Super, it’s revealed that though he didn’t join the battle against Kid Buu on screen, this brave hero did indeed fight for Earth’s future and is now deceased, earning him a place in a hall of heroes.
Olibu Rises
On a school excursion, Trunks and his classmates explore their city’s museum dedicated to former heroes. Among them is Olibu, depicted as a statue inside the museum, indicating that he was once real and defended Earth in the past. This is the first instance of Olibu’s appearance in the manga, as the Dragon Ball series hasn’t delved deeply into the other world compared to how much it has been explored in the anime adaptation.
Besides presenting Olibu, the museum also paid homage to “Master Mutaito,” the mentor who imparted all Master Roshi’s knowledge. Notably, it was Mutaito who devised the “Evil Containment Wave” that initially imprisoned the Demon Lord Piccolo before the story of Dragon Ball. Though he perished in battle against a villain, Roshi survived to nurture a fresh crop of heroes.

Everything’s Canon Now
In the series of Dragon Ball Daima, they’ve skillfully incorporated the anime episodes to establish what’s considered canonical. For quite some time now, fans of Vegeta have been eagerly anticipating if the Z-Fighter would be capable of employing the transformation called Super Saiyan 3. While traversing the Demon Realm, the Saiyan Prince demonstrated that he had put in enough effort in secret to achieve this form. It’s worth noting that Super Saiyan 3 isn’t the sole Super Saiyan form to appear in Dragon Ball Daima.
In the recent installment of the series titled “Awakening”, Son Goku managed to transform into Super Saiyan 4 for the very first time, with the help of an old Namekian named Neva. Known from the series Dragon Ball GT and frequently seen in the spin-off, Super Dragon Ball Heroes, fans of shonen manga have long anticipated this form’s appearance in the main storyline. As we approach the final episodes of the first season of Daima, spectators are eager to see what more exciting moments lie ahead.
