A well-known figure within the video game industry has hinted at a possible reveal of Bungie’s next big project, the extraction shooter titled “Marathon,” which they initially teased back in 2023. After unveiling the first trailer for Marathon, Bungie announced that it would be their main focus once they wrapped up work on Destiny 2. However, since then, there has been no further news about Marathon, leading to curiosity among fans as to when we might see it again. Recently, things seem to suggest that an update might be coming in the upcoming months.
According to reporter Jeff Grubb, it’s likely that Bungie will organize separate events related to Marathon in the future, similar to what they’ve done with Destiny 2 for years. This is why Marathon wasn’t showcased during last week’s State of Play. Grubb also hinted that a dedicated Marathon broadcast might take place around April 2025, although this isn’t confirmed at the moment.
Grubb explained that Marathon wasn’t part of the State of Play event, likely because Bungie prefers to handle their projects independently. For Destiny, they typically take a unique approach by engaging directly with their audience. This year is no exception. I believe we might hear more about Marathon in April, and it will be an individual update separate from State of Play.
Currently, there isn’t much information available about the game named Marathon. As of now, we haven’t seen any gameplay footage, so potential players are still unsure about how the game will be played. Additionally, developer Bungie hasn’t provided a specific release window yet, although they have confirmed that the extraction shooter will debut simultaneously on PS5 and PC. Fortunately, it seems that these uncertainties should be resolved soon, possibly leading to Marathon being released in late 2025.
