As a passionate fan, I can’t help but marvel at how Avowed shatters traditional RPG norms, and one of the most thrilling aspects is the freedom it offers to wield an array of weapon types. This means you can essentially design your own class, choosing the weapons that feel most intuitive and effective for you. The initial weapons you acquire are mere shadows of the mighty weapons that await discovery as you progress through the game. These formidable armaments will enhance the unique build you’re creating as you level up.
In the heat of battle, select weapons that synergize with your chosen skills, while also addressing any vulnerabilities in combat. This strategy will help you navigate the challenging landscapes of this captivating game.
Although the game doesn’t force you into a specific class, it’s generally more effective to focus on skills from one or two classes instead of being a jack-of-all-trades and master of none. When customizing your build, consider your preferred playstyle and the aspects of combat that challenge you most. Personally, I struggle with melee combat, so ranged options like Grimoires, Wands, and Bows suit me better. However, a powerful sword is generally more advantageous than a weak bow, regardless of personal preference, so pay attention to these potent weapons as you traverse the Living Lands.
10. Minoletta’s Conduit
This Wand’s Range Increases Your Distanced Damage
In a game like Avowed, where many enemies charge towards you regardless of your allies’ taunts, being able to neutralize enemies before they get to you can be crucial for survival. The Minoletta’s Conduit offers an extra 30% range extension, making it perfect for taking out targets from a distance. Try aiming from quite a distance, utilizing the power of this wand and its enhanced attack stats.
Among the three distinctive wands in the game ‘Avowed’, you can acquire Minoletta’s Conduit from Abritt Porrya, located at Fior Mes Iverno within the Emerald Stair. It’s quite pricey, but a dependable wand is crucial for anyone pursuing a Wizard or Wizard multiclass character. Not only does Minoletta’s Conduit boast an impressive range and additional attack, but it also adds an extra 10% of Shock Damage to your attacks when they hit.
9. Last Light Of Day
One-Handed Burn Infliction, Plus Healing
For players who prefer close-quarters combat, Last Light of Day provides ongoing Fire Damage and extends your time in the thick of battle due to its inherent healing capabilities. Equipping this sword grants you 3% of your maximum health upon defeating enemies, which may seem minimal but can provide valuable additional time for that decisive strike during intense battles. In situations involving groups of smaller adversaries, particularly when out of healing supplies, the ability to continue attacking becomes a significant advantage.
You’ll acquire this Sword by choosing a specific option during the side-quest “Dawntreader“. In this quest, you’ll encounter Sargamis and will face the decision to either persuade him to give up his life or defeat him in combat. Regardless of whether you win the fight or witness his selfless act, you can take the Sword from his corpse once the situation is resolved. It’s worth noting that you can insert a shard into the statue even if you decide to kill him, so choose the option that aligns best with your character’s roleplay in the story.
8. Sheathed In Summer
You Can Dual Or Solo Wield This Fire-Focused Dagger
If you appreciate the Fire Damage provided by Last Light Of Day, consider pairing it with the Summer Dagger Sheathed, which amplifies Fire Damage through a mechanism called Fire Accumulation. You can obtain this dagger by defeating Octav the Firebrand in the Godless Ruins, located northwest of Paradis. After successfully vanquishing Octav in battle, you’ll be able to loot Sheathed In Summer from their remains.
This Dagger, similar to its kind, delivers swift attacks but has a low payoff when used for blocking, so it’s crucial to have exceptional evasion skills if you plan to wield it in pairs. For those who trust their footwork to maneuver in and out of combat range, this Dagger grants a 10% boost to Fire Damage. Its additional feature, Glowing Embers, triggers moderate Fire Buildup upon executing a full combo attack. Time your attacks wisely and let the embers burn your foes to ashes.
7. Anextli’s Grimoire
More Fire Magic, Plus Two Interesting Wizard Spells
In your possession now is Anextli’s spellbook, following an enchanting accident close to Dehengen’s Cottage. Not surprisingly, this book holds the Fan of Flames incantation, Arcane Veil, and two other distinct spells. The Grimoire Snap is a wide-area shockwave that inflicts explosive damage and momentarily stuns enemies, while Missile Salvo is a more potent form of Magic Missile, homeing in on your adversaries.
Fortunately, there’s no need for a major conflict to acquire this Unique Grimoire; instead, you can get it relatively early in the game. To find it, start from Dehengen’s Cottage, then cross the bridge to the east and follow the road north. After crossing the bridge, turn right, followed by another right, ascend the platform, and head left up the ensuing hill. At the hilltop, take a right where you’ll notice some disturbance caused by a Frenzied Pyromancer, who sets themselves ablaze, ultimately dropping their Grimoire for your collection.
6. Izmalt’s Meteoric Apparatus
Despite a Slow Fire Rate, This Arquebus Deals Heavy Damage
In the game “Avowed,” Izmalt’s Meteoric Apparatus stands out among a select few Unique Arquebuses, living up to its moniker by inflicting colossal damage with each strike. It dishes out approximately 430 Physical Damage, 360 Stun, and ignites Fire Accumulation in surrounding foes upon kill. Though it requires some time to fire a shot, once you do, it’s more than adequate for most encounters. Notably, in smaller skirmishes, this robust two-hander has no trouble instantly defeating enemies.
To get your hands on Izmalt’s Meteoric Apparatus, make your way to Shatterscarp, more precisely towards Thirdborn. Upon reaching the marketplace entrance, you’ll find Kampeki, a vendor at the Fish in a Barrel shop located to the right. This unique weapon can be purchased from him for a substantial sum of money. Since it becomes available later in the game, ensure you have sufficient funds, or prepare to venture and accumulate coins through quests or battles if needed.
5. Ancient Alacrity
For Rangers, Or Anyone Who Likes Crowd Control
This ancient artifact called Alacrity is quite intriguing, with an even more fascinating perk. When it strikes an enemy, they get slowed by 15% over a span of five seconds. Although this may not seem substantial at first glance, each power attack you perform will grant you a 20% speed boost for the same duration of five seconds, which multiplies your chances to outrun adversaries significantly. Given that enemies in Avowed often charge straight towards you, a weapon that provides some breathing room is definitely appreciated.
Following your battle against Sibelius within the Lava Tubes of Galawain’s Tusks, you’ll discover a locked door on your path towards the Garden. Notably, the bow is hidden behind this door to the left. While bows may not be ideal for both close and mid-range skirmishes in my opinion, this particular bow has an exceptional ability – it enables you to neutralize enemies before they can even approach you.
4. Caeroc’s Pride
Shock Buildup Plus The Benefit Of Range
In the game “Avowed,” Caeroc’s Pride stands out as one of the most delightful Blunderbusses to use. Remarkably, this weapon can be acquired relatively early in the campaign, making it a reliable ally for players throughout their journey. At its base level, it dishes out substantial Shock Accumulation and approximately 70 points of damage. To enhance its capabilities, it also inflicts Shock Damage due to Shocking Lash, increasing the potency of your strikes by an additional 10%.
On Ondra’s Reach, a mid-sized island in Dawnshore, you can obtain Caeroc’s Pride. It lies almost eastward from The Catch, but remember, you can’t simply approach it. Before reaching it, you must first vanquish Tempestuous Luandi and retrieve his loot. Fortunately, this battle shouldn’t prove overly challenging. Overcoming this hurdle will grant you a potent Shock weapon that will be beneficial throughout the game.
3. Hel’s Tongue
This Greatsword Shows The Power Of Balance
Apart from skillfully managing both fiery and frosty attacks through Hel’s Tongue, you’re also mastering the art of close-range and spell combat. This special weapon grants an additional 10% Fire Damage to opponents above half health and Ice Damage to those below it, providing a tactical edge in any battle scenario. Additionally, it offers a substantial regeneration of mana with Power Attacks, restoring up to 10% of your maximum Essence.
As a versatile gamer, if you’re intrigued by the idea of blending magic and melee combat, here’s a tip: Seek out the enchanted Greatsword I’m referring to. Wield your preferred Grimoire and wand for magical assaults, then transition to this formidable two-handed Greatsword for close-quarters fighting. This switch also helps you recharge the Essence needed for spellcasting again. If this sounds like your style, head over to the Twin Offerings Overlook, beyond the Xaurip Chief Grithin Bounty target, and keep an eye out for this powerful Greatsword.
2. Od Caura’s Grimoire
Requiring Mastery Rank 3, But Comes With A Neat Spell
To make the most out of Od Caura’s Grimoire, it’s essential to reach Mastery Rank 3 or higher. Once you’ve advanced that far, you’ll gain access to the Pull of Eora enchantment. This spell generates a rift in the Beyond, drawing in two close-by adversaries and levitating them for a while within a vortex.
In the region of the Emerald Stair, specifically within the Pargrun Cache area of the Wildwoods, you can locate Od Caura’s Grimoire. To access it, enter the ruins through the right-side opening (northward). After descending the stairs, you’ll find a locked door that requires a lightning spell to open. Proceed to the left after opening it, as more enemies will appear. Use another lightning spell to unlock another lock in the same location. Beyond this second lock lies a chest containing the Grimoire.
1. One Last Trick
You Like Bullets? We’ve Got Bullets
In the game Avowed, One Last Trick could become one of my preferred weapons due to its Ricochet ability. This feature lets your bullets strike an additional enemy within a specific distance, much like the Khvostov Exotic weapon in Destiny 2. When combined with Gunnery’s bonus 20% reload speed, this results in you hitting increasingly more enemies with each shot.
To grab One Last Trick, finish the “The Steel Resolve” mission at the Ranger Headquarters in the Emerald Stair. You can either chat with Ranger Captain Acierno at the Headquarters to initiate it or rescue him during the Trantons Bounty later. Regardless of how you obtain this or any of Avowed’s top weapons, they will be valuable additions as you journey through the Living Lands.
