In January, Nintendo and LEGO unveiled a new build inspired by the original Game Boy handheld. At the time, they didn’t share many details or show us what the final product would look like. But recently, some leaked information has surfaced online, giving us a sneak peek at this upcoming set. As per Falconbricks, the Game Boy LEGO set will hit the shelves on October 1st, and it’s expected to retail for $59.99. The set is said to consist of 421 pieces in total.
Just as you would with any unconfirmed news, it’s wise to approach this leak cautiously, waiting for an official statement. However, given Falconbricks’ substantial fanbase and history of reliable leaks, there’s a good chance the information about the LEGO Game Boy set is accurate. Fingers crossed that we’ll receive confirmation shortly about this exciting new release!
If the price for these new Nintendo sets by LEGO is correct, it’s probably going to be good news for Nintendo enthusiasts. In 2024, they launched some expensive sets like “The Legend of Zelda: The Great Deku Tree“, which retailed at $299. With a new console from Nintendo coming out soon, dedicated fans would likely welcome this set that caters to mature fans without putting too much strain on their wallets.
One intriguing aspect about the LEGO Game Boy is figuring out which game will appear on its screen. The LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System had a TV showing the classic Super Mario Bros., so it’s plausible we might see Super Mario Land displayed instead. Tetris could also be an option, considering its strong connection to the system. However, Nintendo doesn’t own Tetris rights, which might make it less probable. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is another reasonable guess. But there’s a chance LEGO will leave the Game Boy screen blank and not include a cartridge, which would be quite underwhelming.
The original Game Boy was a significant milestone for Nintendo, earning a spot on ComicBook’s list of the Top 7 Nintendo Systems Ever Made. This portable device laid the foundation for the Nintendo Switch and demonstrated that top-notch gaming could be achieved in a handheld format. It’s no wonder LEGO selected this system as their next brick replica, leaving us curious about potential future Nintendo adaptations. While it might take some time for a LEGO Virtual Boy to materialize, its possibility seems quite likely!
