15 Million Players Can’t Be Wrong: Where Winds Meet is Taking the Gaming World by Storm!

Summary

  • Where Winds Meet, an open-world action RPG, has amassed over 15 million players since its December 2024 release in China.
  • The title is scheduled to be released globally in 2025, but only the iOS version.
  • Other platforms will follow, though it’s unclear when.

The historically themed game, “Where Winds Meet,” published by NetEase (the same company behind Marvel Rivals), has garnered more than 15 million players since its China-limited release on PC and mobile platforms in December 2024. Similar to the upcoming Chinese AAA game, “Black Myth: Wukong,” “Where Winds Meet” is set in an open world and incorporates action role-playing game (RPG) elements.

Over the last ten years or so, the Chinese gaming industry has become a significant player in the mobile gaming market. Now, it aims to replicate that success with PC and console games. In 2024, Game Science’s game “Black Myth: Wukong,” the first international AAA release from a Chinese studio, was launched, and it quickly drew massive player engagement and impressive sales. Selling over 25 million copies in under half a year, this game based on the Journey to the West inspired a new standard for future Chinese-made PC and console games. It seems that Everstone Studios’ “Where Winds Meet,” released exclusively in China, could very well continue this trend, given its impressive early performance.

During the Q4 2024 and early 2025 financial report, NetEase Games revealed that the player count for their game “Where Winds Meet” surpassed 15 million in China across PC and mobile just two weeks following its January 9 mobile release. In those initial weeks, the martial arts-themed title also claimed the top spot on the iOS download charts. The mobile success followed a strong launch of “Where Winds Meet” on PC, where it achieved over three million downloads in just four days after being released on December 27, 2024. In the same report, NetEase also shared an exciting update about their popular hero shooter game, “Marvel Rivals,” noting that it had amassed more than 45 million players to date, positioning itself as a significant competitor to “Overwatch 2.”

Where Winds Meet is Set to Launch Worldwide in 2025, But There’s a Catch

It was earlier announced that the game titled “Where Winds Meet” would be released globally at some point in the future, but as of now, not all platforms have been confirmed for a 2025 worldwide release. The latest update from the studio, shared on Twitter in October 2024, mentioned specifically that the iOS version will be launched internationally in 2025, without providing clear details about its PC and console versions. Despite this uncertainty causing a bit of concern among enthusiastic fans, the international release of the mobile version could pave the way for further updates regarding the development progress of “Where Winds Meet” on other platforms.

It’s worth noting that another console game with a martial arts theme similar to “Where Winds Meet” is set to be released from China soon. This title, known as “Phantom Blade Zero,” was first unveiled in May 2023 and is planned for both PC and PS5 platforms. The anticipated release date is Fall 2026.
