☢️ Heed this notice: This piece unveils surprises for The Amazing Spider-Man #68.
Once more, the fated streak known as Parker’s Luck rears its head: Gwen Stacy rises from the grave, only to find Peter Parker meet his end.
Remember, dear reader, that Spider-Man has faced death before, on numerous occasions. This revelation comes even prior to Doctor Doom and the Sorcerer Supreme bestowing upon him the eight rejuvenating Raggadorr’s Reeds, a gift that saved the world from the destructive force of the eight Scions of Cyttorak during the epic saga, The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man.
In a fierce battle against the formidable foes, the Scions Cyntros, Cyperion, Cyrios, and Callix, Spider-Man (Peter Parker) utilized four of the Reeds to resurrect himself after each encounter. However, when Callix’s sister, Cyra, forced Peter to confront the unavoidable deaths of all those he had ever cared for deeply, along with countless other lives, he chose to relinquish his role as the Champion and abandoned his identity as Spider-Man.
When Juggernaut (Cyttorak’s avatar) and X-Men led by Cyclops intervened to stop Scion Cradios and prevent the Covenant, Doctor Strange forewarned Peter about another catastrophic threat called the Blight. As the Sorcerer Supreme, Strange made a deal with Cyttorak to confine the Blight in the Crimson Casket, which is now broken. However, Doctor Strange is no longer the Sorcerer Supreme, and Peter Parker is no longer Spider-Man.
Or:
Originally, Juggernaut (a representation of Cyttorak) and X-Men, led by Cyclops, stopped Scion Cradios to prevent a pact called the Covenant from continuing. Before this, Doctor Strange had warned Peter about an impending doomsday event known as the Blight – an unstoppable cosmic energy that could extinguish all life. As the highest sorcerer, Strange made a deal with Cyttorak to keep the Blight locked away in the Crimson Casket; but now, both Doctor Strange and Peter Parker are no longer in their respective roles as Sorcerer Supreme and Spider-Man.
In the comic book “Amazing Spider-Man” issue #68, a Callix afflicted by Blight viciously attacks New York City. This event stirs an indifferent Peter Parker out of his melancholic state as he reflects upon four lives potentially saved: Shay, his new girlfriend; Randy Robertson, a former roommate; Ricardo, a worker from F.E.A.S.T.; and Aunt May, whom he deeply cherishes. Later on, Peter gives the final Reed of Raggadorr to Phil Coulson, symbolizing death itself, in an attempt to revive these four individuals, disregarding Cyra’s caution that the next time Spider-Man dies, it will be irreversible.
In this scenario, Spider-Man teams up with the X-Men to combat the corrupt villain Callix. He then uses a powerful spell, the Infernal Spear of Ferical, which can annihilate any enemy but renders the caster incapable of using magic for a while. However, the Blight overpowers this spell, allowing Callix to escape and threaten Earth. The Blight also infects the X-Men, causing them to turn against each other. This infection is referred to as soul rot, a toxic substance that spreads worldwide, making people destroy what they value most. Interestingly, only Juggernaut, who serves as Cyttorak’s earthly representative, remains unaffected and must now battle the corrupted X-Men.
In order to prevent Callix-Blight from taking over, Spider-Man needs to accompany Cyra into her father’s domain, the Red Universe (or Crimson Cosmos), before her brother manages to consume the last Scions. If they don’t succeed, their entire reality could be wiped out. Upon entering the Red Universe with Cyra, they discover her siblings already slain by Callix.
In the midst of Cyttorak’s realm being consumed by a dark blight, I, unexpectedly, emerge and break Spider-Man’s neck, ending his life. As he breathes his last, Death whispers softly, “You gave it your all, young one. It’s time for you to move on.
Absolutely, there are three more plot points left before the end of Volume 6, and Marvel is planning to reboot Amazing Spider-Man with a fresh start from Issue #1 in April. Following next week’s Amazing Spider-Man #68, we’ll see Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange collaborating against the Blight in issue #69. Then, the final chapter of this volume, Amazing Spider-Man #70, will introduce an indomitable Spider-Naut.
