The Heartbreaking Reason Teen Mom’s Tyler and Catelynn Gave Up Their Daughter

Tyler Baltierra is detailing one of his most important life decisions.

In a heartfelt conversation, “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” star Butch Baltierra shared his thoughts on the tumultuous bond he shares with his father and why he and wife Catelynn Lowell chose to place their 15-year-old daughter, Carly, for adoption in 2009.

In the February 20th episode of Teen Mom, Tyler, who is the father of daughters Novalee (9), Vaeda (5), and Rya (3) with Catelynn, shared his thoughts on a tough choice. He explained, “Growing up without my father influenced me to place Carly initially.

He added, “I was just so scared to screw it up.”

Currently, Tyler mentioned that both he and his wife Catelynn, who got married in 2015, feel complete enough to care for their three younger children.

He shared that it served as a driving force for him and Cate, “helping us focus on our own healing, so that when we decided to expand our family, we could do so with a stronger foundation.

It’s clear that Tyler has been impacted by his father’s battles with addiction and prolonged absence, as he hasn’t seen Butch in five years, as shared during the Feb. 20 episode. However, now that he’s a parent himself, Tyler has developed a greater sense of understanding and compassion for his father.

As I grow older, I find myself having even more affection for my father, Tyler explained. This is because, as a parent myself, I realize how young he was when I was born and how few resources he had compared to what I have now. So, it’s hard to blame him too much for anything.

In another part of the same program, Tyler expressed his deep affection for fatherhood when he spoke fondly about his three little girls, stating, “Given the chance, I’d want to halt everything else and savor this moment with them for as long as possible.

And when Catelynn called him a “great daddy,” Tyler gushed, “That’s the highest honor.”

Tyler soon discusses the challenges he and Catelynn face regarding their daughter Carly, following a disclosure about their relationship status with Carly’s adoptive parents made by the couple earlier on.

Last month, Catelynn shared with TopMob News that Brandon Davis and Teresa Davis, Carly’s parents, have definitively and completely closed their adoption. She added, “We’ve been inquiring about their feelings, ‘Is it possibly that Carly doesn’t wish to maintain contact?’ If that’s the case, we would feel the pain, but we would comprehend. We’d say, ‘If you ever want to connect again, we’re here and ready to support you, knowing that this entire situation might be challenging for you.’

On the other hand, Catelynn stated, “If her parents are merely reacting out of fear, it’s my responsibility as a birth mother to consistently advocate for open communication with this child, as this is likely the most beneficial approach for her, should that be her wish.

In the very first season of 16 and Pregnant back in 2009, viewers witnessed couple favorites Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra make the challenging decision to put their first child, Carly, up for adoption. Fast forward to August 2015, after thirteen years as a pair, they tied the knot. Since then, they’ve added three more daughters to their family: Novalee, Vaeda, and Rya.

Despite the lingering sadness from Carly’s absence, who resides with her adoptive parents Brandon and Teresa Davis, the couple persistently work towards a brighter tomorrow.

In an interview with TopMob News in January 2025, Catelynn expressed that their bond “depends entirely on what she desires.” She continued, “Whether she wishes to maintain a relationship with her biological siblings or with us, that’s fantastic. If she prefers not to, we get it. Whatever her choice, it should be centered around her as the adoptee, because it’s all about her comfort and her needs.

In the first half of a year following her pregnancy, viewers witnessed Maci Bookout dealing with an unreliable Ryan Edwards on the show ’16 and Pregnant’. Despite their engagement, these high school sweethearts parted ways just under a year after their son Bentley was born in 2008.

Currently, they are working towards establishing a shared parenting bond. As TopMob News reported in 2023, Maci shared that Ryan has been more regular and consistent than perhaps ever before.

In 2012, Maci met her lifelong partner, Taylor McKinney from Texas, and they started expanding their team. Their family grew with the arrival of daughter Jayde in May 2015, followed by son Maverick a year after. They tied the knot in Florida in October that same year.

2023 interview with TopMob News, she expressed, “My partner and I are teammates in life, parenthood, and our TTM Lifestyle fashion brand. To quote me, ‘He’s simply my person.’ Despite the ups and downs we’ve experienced together over the past year, I still opt for him. He’s someone I appreciate, and even when I feel like throwing a punch at him, I prefer to have disagreements or tough times with him rather than never experience such moments with anyone else.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share my fascination with the unique bond between these former MTV stars, who found each other amidst the chaos of The Challenge. Even though they’ve both moved on in their romantic lives, they remain united by their shared responsibility for their precious daughter Ryder. It’s a testament to their enduring connection and commitment as parents.

From the very start of Cory entering Ryder’s life, the main focus for us has been about the kind of father Cory wanted to be and the type of parent he aspired to become,” Cheyenne shared with TopMob News in March 2020. “I made it clear that I wouldn’t settle for a part-time dad or a dad who only appeared on social media. He needed to commit fully. I believe from the beginning, he understood my approach and respected it, which is why we work so well as co-parents.

Following the conclusion of their romance in 2018, they chose to rekindle their relationship. During her birthday celebration in 2019, Cheyenne announced on Instagram that she was reunited with Zach. In May 2021, they were blessed with their first child, a son named Ace, and got married in September 2022.

In an interview with TopMob News in 2024, Cheyenne shared that over the last two years they’ve been ticking items off their bucket list. Specifically, they’d always dreamed of having a baby, and they welcomed Ace into their family. They had long desired to get married, and they held their wedding ceremony. Lastly, they had aspired to buy a house, and they successfully purchased their own home.

She went on to say, “Right now, I have no desire for action or ambition. Instead, I long for tranquility. My aim is to find peace and contentment in our current situation, enjoying our company and simply appreciating each other. That’s all I seek.

Despite starting their journey while filming ‘Ex on the Beach’, which might not seem like the foundation for a love story, Cory and Taylor Selfridge from ‘Are You the One?’ have continued to make an impact, now with two daughters named Mila and Maya in their lives, years later.

2023 found me excitedly announcing to TopMob News that I had recently purchased a new home. When asked about our marital plans, I confided that while the details aren’t set in stone yet, it’s definitely a topic of conversation between us. Taylor and I are still working on finding the perfect ring and discussing our future together. It’s something we both eagerly anticipate and believe will make us even stronger as a couple. For now, we’re focusing on taking the necessary steps to make this dream a reality.

After tying the knot with Mackenzie Standifer in May 2017, Ryan didn’t wait long before entering rehab. Their first son, Jagger, was born in 2018, during a period when Ryan was still undergoing treatment.

In January 2020, the couple had a daughter named Stella, but three years after that, Mackenzie decided to file for divorce. Now, Ryan is engaged to Amanda Conner, and they are expecting their first child together.

Even though their highly controversial relationship ended definitively in 2013, the pair have found a way to jointly raise their now-teenage daughter Leah.

In an interview with TopMob News in January 2022, Amber shared that although they enjoy each other’s company from afar, their bond is strong. She described their relationship as being like a family, emphasizing that they prioritize it above all else.

Following multiple years as a couple, an offer of marriage and a brief experience on the show “Marriage Boot Camp,” Amber and Matt Baier (originally from Boston) ended their engagement in 2017.

On Dr. Drew Pinsky’s podcast, Amber admitted that at some point, she simply grew tired of hearing things and stopped caring about the relationship. She built a protective barrier to avoid being hurt again.

Amber developed a romantic relationship with crew member Andrew Glennon during the filming of “Marriage Boot Camp.” They publicly appeared as a couple at the 2017 MTV Movie Awards. Later in May 2018, they welcomed their first child, named James.

However, the pair parted ways shortly following Amber’s arrest on charges of domestic battery in July 2019. After a difficult court case, it was decided in 2022 that California native Andrew would have both legal and primary physical custody of their son.

The “Teen Mom” celebrity shared with TopMob News that they’ve put in tremendous effort to enhance themselves personally and strengthen their bonds with their kids. They emphasized that despite openly discussing their past struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues, everyone deserves a chance for redemption and should not be defined solely by their past challenges.

Persevering through adversity, she asserted, “Even if your path hasn’t been smooth, but you’ve tirelessly worked to improve, grow, and evolve into a better, stronger, and compassionate individual today, continue marching onward just as I am. Rest assured, I won’t back down in my efforts for my cherished children, who mean the world to me.

Following an online encounter with Amber, Dimitri Garcia first appeared on the reality TV show “Teen Mom OG” in April 2020. On the program, Amber revealed about Dimitri, “He’s from Belgium and he’s 39, which makes him 10 years older than me, but he’s quite attractive.” She added, “I started to share more with him, and we both felt that it would be a good idea to meet since we seemed to like each other.

In April 2021, Amber openly shared on the Teen Mom OG reunion special that she was still in a relationship with Dimitri. She stated, “We’ve known each other for about 18 months now, but I haven’t seen him for a year.” Despite not making an official announcement of their breakup, Amber later introduced her new boyfriend, Gary Wayt, during a June 2024 episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.

Following Amber linking up with Gary 2.0 via a dating app in autumn 2023, he made an appearance on the screen when she presented him to her fellow “Teen Mom” colleagues during a video call conversation.

Despite him making the proposal in May 2024, their engagement didn’t last long. During her trip to North Carolina for her brother’s wedding in June, there was an argument between them, causing Gary to leave suddenly, which eventually led Amber to file a missing person report.

And while Gary was soon located, the duo’s engagment wasn’t the only thing left broken.

Amber expressed, on the show ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’, that for about three to four days she was faced with the belief that her fiancé had passed away. This led her to grieve deeply and struggle to comprehend why such a thing could happen to her. She is currently going through a difficult time.

She went on to say, “This man shattered me. Previously, I had been steady. Now, for the first time in many years, I’m not feeling perfectly okay because a man proposed to me with a ring.

A few months had passed since Gary and his wife, Kristina Anderson, had their baby girl Emilee in April 2015, they then chose to tie the knot in a charming beach wedding ceremony.

In his 2022 Instagram post, Gary expressed, “Your soul is one of the most radiant and stunning I’ve encountered. I can hardly imagine life without your presence.

As a lifestyle guide, I’d like to share a poignant moment from the life of Farrah Abraham. Two months before her daughter Sophia was born in December 2008, Sophia’s father tragically passed away due to an accident. This event undoubtedly shaped Farrah and Sophia’s journey together, reminding us all of life’s unpredictable twists and turns.

Ever since the heart-wrenching end of my high school sweetheart’s life, I found myself drawn to none other than the captivating Simon Saran, a charismatic real estate agent. Over the span of more than two breathless years, our relationship ebbed and flowed, like the tides of the ocean I so love.

Despite the acrimonious breakup they experienced in 2017, they made an effort, albeit somewhat strained, to maintain a friendship.

Simon expressed to TopMob News that he holds no grudges against Farrah. He explained they come from contrasting backgrounds; she prefers a fabricated lifestyle, whereas he seeks authenticity. Wishing only good fortune and prosperity for her upcoming ventures, he remains supportive of her endeavors.

Jenelle Evans and Andrew Lewis, who are the parents of now-adolescent Jace, separated soon after his birth in 2009. Regrettably, Jenelle has had little to no role in her son’s life since then.

Jenelle thought about how Jace’s father was, and she felt bad about it on an episode of Teen Mom 2 in 2019. However, she knew his character, and she didn’t want him to let her son down by being unreliable – coming and going without warning.

Following a one-year marriage with Courtland Rogers and the birth of her second child, Kaiser, in 2014 from an ex-boyfriend named Nathan Griffin, Jenelle later married David Eason on their North Carolina property in September 2017. This union occurred eight months after they had their daughter, Ensley.

Following a difficult period, David was accused of a minor child abuse offense related to Jace. Jenelle described this as a smear campaign against him. She later disclosed that they had parted ways. Explaining on social media, she said, “I could have immediately filed for divorce, but in the state of North Carolina, you must be legally separated for a year first. Additionally, you need to provide evidence of two separate residences.

1. Find the person who previously asked Chelsea Houska to sign documents related to a mistake he made.

2. Approach that individual.

3. Ask him politely when he intends to fulfill his commitment and hand over the signed papers.

Completely in the rearview.

Despite the challenges, the former Teen Mom star and now HGTV personality maintains a surprisingly peaceful bond with her high school ex, Adam Lind, who is Aubree’s father. As she shared with Us Weekly, “There’s no negative energy, and it’s just an open relationship.” She added, “We don’t have any bad feelings towards each other, and when we do see him, everything is fine.

Back in 2014, our fateful encounter at a gas station set the stage for an enduring love story. Fast forward to October 2016, and Cole DeBoer and I officially tied the knot. Our family expanded with the arrival of our son Watson in 2017, followed by daughters Layne in 2018 and Walker in 2021. Now, we’re embarking on a new adventure together – our HGTV series titled Down Home Fab.

Speaking with TopMob News, Chelsea expressed that if they were to return to television, she desired it to be a fun, positive show where they could truly express their genuine personalities. She added that this decision felt incredibly fitting for her, as she called it “an amazing chance” to do so.

Despite Leah Messer and Corey Simms’ efforts to transform their friendship into a lifelong union, the parents of teenage twins Aleeah and Aliannah decided to part ways just six months after their October 2010 wedding by filing for divorce.

Corey has been married to Miranda Patterson since 2013.

In the year 2012, Leah got married to Jeremy Calvert. A year later, they had a child named Adalynn.

Despite parting ways in 2015, they’ve striven to jointly raise their daughter, with outcomes that aren’t always perfect. Leah shared her thoughts with TopMob News: “I feel like I’m seeing the best version of myself. Watching them engage in activities they adore and having the chance to back them up in their lives is enchanting. I cherish it. I cherish being a mother, particularly a mom to girls.

By the year 2021, when Leah made their relationship Instagram official with Jaylan Mobley, this U.S. Army officer had already won over not only Leah but also her children.

The couple announced their engagement in August 2022, but broke up that October.

A year after her split, the ‘Teen Mom’ star admitted to TopMob News that she needed it. She shared that she has gained valuable insights from her past relationship, and now feels as if a new chapter in her life is unfolding.

Back in 2010, I was only seventeen years old when my then-high school sweetheart, Jo Rivera, and I became parents to our oldest son, Isaac.

Though they parted ways a year later, they have since established a harmonious co-parenting routine. Interestingly enough, Kailyn has teamed up with Jo’s wife, Vee Torres, to host her discontinued “Baby Mamas No Drama” podcast. After attending Jo and Vee’s 2018 wedding, Kailyn expressed her feelings saying, “We have journeyed a long way since we were 18. I couldn’t wish for a better stepmother for Isaac.”

This new version attempts to maintain the original sentiment while making it easier to read and understand for a general audience.

In November 2013, Kailyn’s second child, Lincoln, became part of the team. This was approximately a year after Kailyn, who was then a prominent figure on Teen Mom 2, got married to his father, Javi Marroquin.

After parting ways in late 2016, their relationship has had its ups and downs, with Javi and his fiancée Lauren Comeau – who already have a son named Eli – announcing in December 2023 that they were expecting another child together, this time a girl.

Despite Kailyn having sons Lux and Creed with her partner Chris Lopez during their intermittent relationship, they ultimately decided to end things permanently.

In 2020, she shared with TopMob News that there is no communication at the moment. She expressed her optimism that things might improve over time but doesn’t have any grand plans. She emphasized that she has nothing negative to say and only hopes for the best for their children, regardless of how things unfold.

Kailyn is content with her current partner, Elijah Scott, as she feels they provide a solid base for her. As she shared with People, Elijah is unlike any of her previous partners and the fathers of her kids. “He’s very different,” she said about Elijah, who is Rio’s dad and the twins’ father, Verse and Valley. “He works hard, getting his hands dirty on the job. But he’s also a dedicated family man. He’s closely connected with both our families, making him an excellent partner for me. I feel like we make a good match.

A strong enough one that she finally said yes to one of his many proposals, in fact.

In a conversation with TopMob News in September 2024, Kailyn made it clear that her neighbor-turned-fiance had proposed marriage on multiple occasions, and she never explicitly declined. Instead, she expressed agreement while also indicating that the timing wasn’t ideal for her, saying something like, “I said yes, but not just yet.

And while she admitted that the construction worker had certainly influenced her perspective on matrimony, she’s not immediately running off to pick out a wedding gown. As Kailyn humorously put it, “Whether we’ll be getting married soon depends on the day you happen to ask me.

Despite experiencing numerous highs and lows since the birth of their daughter Kloie in 2017, Indiana residents Jade Cline and Sean Austin hinted to followers in January 2022 that their relationship was improving.

She shared with TopMob News that there were significant events that impacted our lives, as well as substantial progress and improvements in Sean’s life and future. I am incredibly proud of him and where we are now. Eight months later, they revealed their engagement, tying the knot in October 2023.

In 2024, Jade confided in TopMob News that their relationship isn’t flawless all the time, but they have a deep affection for one another and manage to make things function smoothly.

In the private ceremony held in 2021, long-time Californian residents Ashley Jones and Bar Smith exchanged vows – a milestone that came four years following the birth of their daughter, Holly.

But after calling off their romance several times, Ashley officially filed for divorce in 2024.

In the years following Briana DeJesus and Devoin Austin II becoming parents to Nova in 2011, a possibility arose that they might rekindle their relationship.

Currently, as reported by TopMob News in 2024, Briana expressed, “These days, I’m seeking a genuine adult male, not someone who resembles more of a young man, whom I’ve become accustomed to dating in the past.

Ever since my stint on the one-and-only season of Teen Mom 3, I’ve been a part of the dynamic cast of Teen Mom 2, gracing its eighth season with my presence. In the scorching summer of 2017, I welcomed my little miracle, Stella, into this world, with my former beau, Luis Miguel, by my side.

Ever since then, Luis has barely been involved, if at all. Briana clarified this to Dr. Drew during a December 2019 episode of Teen Mom 2. “I believe he desires a family with me,” she said, “but since I’m not offering that, he seems to want nothing to do with me at all.
