Update #3 [Fri 21st Feb 2025, 7am]: Exciting news! The Returnal-inspired third-person shooter Scar-Lead Salvation will indeed be available for release in the West on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
It’s been verified that Idea Factory’s game will be accessible for purchase in a physical format as well as digitally through Sony’s platforms starting May 29th. This date coincides with the original release date of the PC version.
There’s an announcement trailer embedded above. All’s well that ends well, eh?
Update #2 [Sun 2nd Feb 2025, 1:45pm]: Contrary to previous plans, Scar-Lead Salvation will not launch on PlayStation systems in the West on May 29th as initially expected. Instead, publisher Idea Factory International has confirmed a PC version for its Western release only.

As a dedicated gamer speaking, I can say that at this moment, I don’t have any specifics to share about the PlayStation versions of the game. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and will be reaching out to the developers for more updates.
The game under development supports both the PS5 and PS4 consoles, offering voiceovers in English and Japanese, alongside subtitle options in English, French, Spanish, Japanese (both Traditional and Simplified Chinese versions) for PC gamers.
It seems our assumption is that the certification process for this game on PS5 and PS4 might take more time compared to PC, which could be why a release date hasn’t been set yet. However, it’s important to note that currently, this game is not planned for an international launch on PlayStation consoles.
Update #1 [Thu 30th Jan 2025, 5:15am]:
True to their word, Compile Heart has formally revealed the game titled “Scar-Lead Salvation” for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. This exciting new title appears to be influenced by Returnal, featuring a third-person shooting perspective, and boasting an aesthetically pleasing anime style.
The synopsis mentions, as per Gematsu’s report, ‘Breaking free from the cycle of endless demises.’ Despite its elevated level of challenge that seasoned gamers might struggle with, it’s important to note that death doesn’t signal game over.
In this game, you’ll navigate diverse, procedurally-generated dungeons, amassing and upgrading weapons as you advance. Each time you perish, your progress resets, meaning you must strategize carefully to make it further.
From the trailer, it’s evident that this game combines classic third-person shooter action with fast-paced bullet storm sequences, a unique blend indeed! The project is being spearheaded by Hiroshi Aoki, who was instrumental in designing Psychic Force.
Although a western release hasn’t been confirmed as of now, remember that Idea Factory International is handling the PC version, suggesting that we might not want to rule it out just yet.
Either way, the title’s due out in Japan on 29th May.
Original Story:
Raise your hands if you ever played Psychic Force on PlayStation 1? While the game by Taito wasn’t particularly great, it boasted an amazing 90s anime style that likely drew you in regardless.
As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to announce that the seasoned designer Hiroshi Aoki, known for his work on games such as Dariusburst and Rune Factory, has returned with a fresh take on a third-person shooter. This exciting new project is being published by Compile Heart.
On January 30th, we’re set to unveil everything about the game, and as soon as that happens, we’ll share the updates here. For now, what we can confirm is that the game is named “Scar-Lead Salvation,” and it’s scheduled for release on both PS5 and PS4 systems.
Indeed, it bears quite a resemblance to Returnal. As per Gematsu’s report, it appears that the game features randomly generated dungeons. If you meet an untimely demise, you’ll forfeit your weapons and progress. Interestingly, there seems to be a mysterious number displayed on your character’s face, which grows with each run. We suspect this could play a significant role in the storyline.
If it boasts the same swift and smooth gameplay as Housemarque’s popular title, then it might be a game to watch. Set for release on the 29th of May in Japan, it’s likely that it will find distribution globally.
