It’s understandable if you overlooked season 2 of the critically acclaimed animated sci-fi show, Pantheon, given its bumpy journey to airing. However, great news! For the very first time, this globally accessible series has landed on Netflix and is ready for you to stream it worldwide.
This animated show, with the voices of actors like Paul Dano, Aaron Eckhart, Daniel Dae Kim, among others, narrates the story of Maddie Kim, a teenager who is often bullied. She finds guidance from an anonymous online figure who presents themselves as her late father.
Once Maddie learns the facts, she’ll have to deal with Uploaded Intelligence – a recently developed technology that bears a heavy toll on humans – and ponder over its potential impact on our species.
Developed by Craig Silverstein, Pantheon derives inspiration from the collection of short stories by Ken Liu, which encompasses titles such as “The Gods Cannot be Imprisoned”, “The Gods Cannot be Destroyed”, and “The Gods Cannot Die in Vain”.
Despite the exciting anticipation I had for Pantheon following its 2022 release, and even though both seasons were initially ordered by AMC and Season 2 was even completed, to my disappointment, the series was unexpectedly cancelled and taken off their streaming platforms.
In Australia and New Zealand, both seasons 1 (originally released) and 2 (previously unavailable), were later made accessible on Amazon Prime Video.
Since then, Netflix has acquired the show, and the first season was made available at the end of last year. Now, season 2, which wasn’t widely viewed before, is being distributed globally on Netflix, giving many people a chance to see it for the first time.
According to reports, Liu apparently revealed this in his newsletter, expressing to his followers: “I’m really fond of what Craig and the crew have accomplished with season 2. If you were a fan of season 1, you absolutely won’t want to miss out on how the plot concludes.”
Regardless of any challenges viewers might have faced in watching the series earlier, it has garnered a remarkable response so far, earning a perfect 100% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a near-perfect 95% score from audiences.
Additionally, it could be that the program may gain greater popularity today, given the surge in acclaim for animated sci-fi and fantasy shows like Invincible, The Legend of Vox Machina, Arcane, Castlevania, and others.
