Approximately three years following the announcement of Neighbours‘ cancellation, and slightly more than two years after its resurrection, it’s been confirmed that the soap opera will take a break starting in December 2025.
In the last few years, the soap has experienced some ups and downs. Initially, it was taken off the air on Channel 5. However, only a few months later, it was brought back to life by Amazon Freevee following a dramatic conclusion.
The series began airing in September 2023, however, it’s been officially announced that Amazon MGM Studios won’t produce any more episodes past this year, bringing an end to the show as it celebrates its 40th anniversary on the air.
As a movie reviewer, I’d put it this way: “Hey there, Neighbours fans! I, Jason Herbison, proud Executive Producer of this beloved soap, am thrilled to share some fantastic news with you all. We’ve consistently ranked among the Top 10 titles in the UK – a testament to your unwavering support! And

As we conclude this chapter, our gratitude extends to Amazon MGM Studios for their significant contributions to Neighbours. Their efforts have successfully introduced this cherished and adored series to viewers worldwide.
We greatly appreciate the passion our fans have for Neighbours, and we’re confident that there are many more tales waiting to be shared about the residents of Ramsay Street in the days ahead.
Amazon MGM Studios expressed their pride in contributing a small piece to the long-standing story of Neighbours, acknowledging that reaching 40 years is an impressive feat. However, they have not disclosed the reason behind the series’ cancellation.
In 2022, the initial ending of the series brought back some legendary actors who had previously starred in it, such as Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue, and Jason Donovan.
2025 marks an uncertain conclusion for this version of the show, but one thing is certain: the 40th anniversary will bring back familiar faces to the town of Erinsborough as we celebrate.
In a short while, Ian Smith, who plays Harold Bishop on the soap opera, will be leaving the show following his diagnosis with terminal cancer.
