Summary
- Combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is deep and engaging, with different weapons offering varied play styles.
- Unarmed combat can work, but requires early commitment with the right perks to make it a viable option.
- Swords are a top choice due to their flexibility and ease of use, especially when paired with a shield for defense.
In the vast realm of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, there are numerous activities to immerse yourself in. However, at its core, the game’s essence lies in its captivating combat system. Initially, the combat might seem straightforward, but as you delve deeper into the game, you uncover a rich depth that keeps it intriguing.
To truly grasp the diversity in combat styles, one should consider the assortment of distinct weapons at your disposal. Henry has five main categories of weapons to select from, each with its own sub-divisions. However, determining the superior option among them can be challenging.
5.
Unarmed
No Weapons

In simpler terms, among all tools he could utilize in conflict, Henry’s bare hands offer the most straightforward (and budget-friendly) choice. There are certainly instances where his hands might not be the ideal solution, but there are also times when they’re the sole option at hand.
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, I found myself in situations where my character, Henry, had to tackle multiple side quests without resorting to weapons. If I even dared to pull out a sword, the mission would be doomed. But if I was up for it, unarmed combat could definitely work, especially with strategic perk choices. However, let me warn you, it’s no walk in the park!
If you want Henry to excel in unarmed combat, it’s crucial to make that decision early on. If I waited too long, the late-game enemies became merciless and unforgiving. So, plan ahead, train hard, and let’s see those fists fly!
4.
Marksmanship
Bows, Crossbows, And Guns

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, long-distance battles can be hit or miss. You’ll succeed if your timing is impeccable, but sometimes it falls short of being ideal. Similar to unarmed combat, if you focus on ranged skills from the start, the skills you gain will make it more effective, yet even then, the narrative may push you into close-quarter fights where using this method could be challenging or nearly impossible.
If you’re not entirely committed to mastering marksmanship, it might be more advantageous for you to prioritize a melee weapon as your primary skill while keeping marksmanship as a secondary one. This approach allows you to utilize ranged combat effectively when the situation calls for it, and then transition smoothly into melee combat if circumstances force you into close quarters.
In the event you’d like to spice up the battles in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, there’s nothing quite as amusing as having Henry opt for a firearm in a duel with swords. However, remember to account for its lengthy reloading period.
3.
Polearms
Halberds, Poleaxes, Spears, And Staves

Opting for polearms in battle might seem a bit cumbersome initially, but with practice, they can transform Henry into a formidable opponent. The primary reason for their use lies in their extended reach, which becomes particularly beneficial when Henry is outnumbered, providing an advantage even in seemingly unfavorable situations due to the increased distance they offer.
While swords and heavy weapons excel in maneuverability and power, respectively, polearms find themselves in a challenging position due to not being able to match these attributes. However, with some initial investment and focus on acquiring beneficial traits, polearms can prove to be quite effective. Yet, even then, it’s crucial to enhance other stats such as strength and agility to handle the top-tier polearms in the game.
2.
Heavy Weapons
War Hammers, Maces, Clubs, And Axes

As a gamer, I personally find it rewarding to opt for specialized heavy weaponry, even if it means trading off a bit on attack speed and range – especially in the early stages of gameplay. The payoff is immense, as the sheer force and devastation these weapons unleash more than makes up for any initial shortcomings.
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you can acquire numerous beneficial advantages as you progress, which enhance the effectiveness of using heavy weapons. Initially focusing on this playstyle early can be helpful, but it’s not challenging to adjust later in the game. Additionally, there’s a wide range of handling differences among these heavy weapons, with subtle distinctions between their various sub-types. As you advance into the late-game, heavy weapons become increasingly valuable due to the frequent encounters with heavily armored adversaries who employ shields. This is because heavy weapons are most effective against such equipment.
1.
Swords
Short Swords, Long Swords, And Sabers

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it seems rather expected that many players would gravitate towards swords due to their versatility across various playstyles. Since the game prompts you to choose swords early on and mastering combat can take time, it’s likely that most players will opt for their initial choice and stick with it, especially in a game where swordplay is central.
As you start your journey, it’s beneficial to note that many skills and combos you’ll acquire initially are tailored for sword use. However, as you advance through the intermediate and advanced stages of gameplay, you’ll find yourself naturally gravitating towards specializing in one of the assorted types of swords that become available to you.
Among various types of swords, one stands out for its compatibility with a shield (and heavy weapons), providing an opportunity to bolster your defensive capabilities, especially if you’re concerned that solely relying on a sword might leave you exposed. However, if agility and swiftness are your priorities, opting for the lighter, faster swords without a shield could be more suitable for you.
