In an intriguing turn of events, director Osgood Perkins, fresh from the success of ‘Longlegs’ and the recent release of ‘The Monkey’, confirms that he has already completed shooting a third movie during the production phases of these two films.
In the world of cinema, I found myself immersed in a chilling tale titled ‘Keeper,’ which unfolds as the third installment in our series. This gripping production came after Longlegs and preceded The Monkey. As a movie enthusiast, I stepped into the shoes of the lead character, a wife portrayed brilliantly by Tatiana Maslany.
After an unexpected departure by my on-screen spouse, I’m left to grapple with a menacing presence that has taken up residence at our secluded cabin retreat. The raw, intense filming style of director Perkins, which Maslany adored, was a captivating experience that drew her in so much so that she eagerly agreed to play the mother of the twin protagonists in The Monkey.
Director Osgood Perkins casually mentioned, “We swiftly produced Keeper, almost off-the-cuff. We relied heavily on trust and goodwill. It’s an intimate, minimalistic, peculiar film featuring primarily two characters.” Perkins continued, “We finished shooting that movie on a Friday, and by the following Monday, we were already in the offices of The Monkey.
He continued by saying, ‘I traveled to Vancouver to produce Longlegs, a film I hadn’t made in years. During this production, I grew fond of the Canadian team and my producer Chris Ferguson. Our bond formed a mini-Hollywood atmosphere, and we were proud of our work. With The Monkey next on our list, we managed to free it from the studio and secure financing. Everyone was eager to continue working, but then the Writers Guild strike hit hard. It seemed like the strike would never end, and I remember thinking the world might break apart. So, I phoned Chris and said, “We need to keep moving forward, buddy. Our goal was to transition from one project to another, so we have to find a solution.”‘
In summary, we discovered a Canadian author who was up to the task, one who wasn’t affiliated with the Writers Guild [Nick Lepard]. We subsequently enlisted Canadian actors who were prepared to forgo their SAG memberships and work as Canadians. As a result, we created the film “Keeper” from scratch and continued working diligently. It was a swift, spontaneous project executed with trust and goodwill. It’s an intriguing, compact movie with primarily two characters. We completed filming on a Friday, and by the following Monday, we were in discussions with The Monkey [production company]. Things just fell into place for us, and we shared a strong bond. If you possess the necessary skills, enthusiasm, and energy, why not keep pushing forward?
We’ve had a sneak peek of the trailer and is looks as ominously disturbing as Longlegs
Keeper is set for release in Autumn 2025
