Jury Duty Returns: Season 2 Takes a Unexpected Turn

All rise for this Jury Duty update.

Reports confirmed on February 20 that the Amazon Prime Video series has been granted a second season. However, unlike its first installment, the upcoming episode will not involve a courtroom setting.

Instead of focusing on Ronald Gladden, a jury member in a progressively chaotic jury room with James Marsden and Mekki Leeper, the next season is expected to shift to a corporate retreat environment according to recent updates.

Given that the series was nominated for accolades such as the 2023 Golden Globes, Emmys, Critics Choice Awards, among others, any subsequent episodes might necessitate a fresh setting.

In an interview with Variety in April 2023, showrunner Cody Heller expressed that if the story were to continue, it would require a completely new setting. “It wouldn’t work to simply call up for jury duty again,” he said, “because fans might question it. However, I do believe there’s potential. There are countless possibilities where such a tale could unfold.

Representatives for Amazon declined to comment.

As for how Ronald, who was the only non-actor on the set, felt about the experience?

He told Today.com that it was like experiencing a real-life version of the movie “The Truman Show.” It seemed incredibly strange, almost unbelievable.

Despite being taken aback by the result of his stint on the jury, the 32-year-old admitted there were a few peculiar instances that left him feeling uneasy.

In one of the deleted scenes, they arranged a photoshoot involving a security guard who was about to be let go, and everyone was being summoned for it. The incident left me feeling like I was in a reality TV show, which I found quite unexpected, as it happened several times during the entire process.

That was the production team’s cue to settle any concerns.

He went on to say, “Whenever I began to doubt or express concerns, that was when they would suddenly halt everything.” Essentially, they would respond, “Alright, we’re taking a break for the rest of the day,” making the proceedings tedious and filled with legal terms. There was little excitement or intrigue in what transpired.

In a nutshell, they were under pressure to create a sense of chaos, but not excessively so. James, portraying an exaggerated self, likened the whole endeavor to walking on a tightrope in a live performance setting, suggesting both tension and skill.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023, he expressed that there’s only one chance for success. If a hidden camera is spotted or someone is mistakenly called by the wrong name, everything falls apart. This element of unpredictability was thrilling to him, as it presented the challenge of whether we could actually pull off this ambitious plan.
