One Piece’s Taz Skylar Proves Sanji’s Fighting Style is Harder Than It Looks (Exclusive)

In the Straw Hat Pirates, it’s often Luffy’s quirky Gum Gum powers and Zoro’s stylish swordplay that grab the spotlight, leaving Sanji, their third-in-command, somewhat overshadowed due to his seemingly ordinary kick-based combat style. Since the start of One Piece, fans have joked about Sanji’s bounty being lower than Zoro’s, fueling discussions about power levels. However, the introduction of Haki and the disclosure of Sanji’s Germa lineage have given his fighting style a boost in recent years. Yet, Sanji’s Black Leg Style doesn’t always receive the recognition it deserves. But perhaps Netflix’s live-action One Piece will change that, as Taz Skylar convincingly demonstrates that Sanji’s fiery kicks are more challenging to execute than they appear.

During a private conversation with ComicBook, as well as discussing the series ‘Cleaner’, Taz Skylar was questioned about any special training he underwent to enhance his combat skills for season 2 of Netflix’s live-action ‘One Piece’. In response, Taz – known for his intense preparation for the role and performing all of Sanji’s stunts himself – admitted, “I ended the first season with numerous injuries…my knees felt like they were constructed from Legos and held together by cellophane tape,” emphasizing how challenging Sanji’s fighting style actually is in practice and perhaps warrants greater recognition.

Netflix’s One Piece Live Action Proves Sanji’s Fighting Style is Criminally Underappreciated

In the captivating, imaginative universe of One Piece, brimming with devil fruits powers beyond belief, it’s a shame that characters like Sanji, despite their extraordinary martial arts skills in reality, don’t always receive the recognition they truly earn. However, let me tell you, Sanji is no ordinary fighter! Though his style may not be flashy in the One Piece series, he has consistently proven himself to be one of the strongest members of the Straw Hat crew, standing tall against every adversary he’s encountered so far.

Although Sanji’s Black Leg Style appears simple, it is actually quite difficult to master and physically demanding, as Skylar explains in the aforementioned interview: “It took me around three months for my knees to feel stable again, and I continued training throughout that period.

In the popular series “One Piece”, viewers are accustomed to seeing Zoro train with heavy weights, sometimes comically so. On the other hand, Sanji’s training regimen is less frequently shown. However, Taz Skylar, who plays Sanji in the live-action adaptation, has given us a glimpse into the possible extensive effort that goes into making Sanji’s strength appear effortless, especially during earlier arcs of “One Piece” when his Germa lineage hasn’t yet been activated. Despite this, it’s important to acknowledge Taz Skylar’s dedication in bringing Sanji’s character to life. His impressive performance in Season 1 sets high expectations for the upcoming season of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece”, promising an even more captivating experience.
