Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? – Issue 569

After another thrilling week of gaming, it’s high time I rounded up my squad and discuss the games we’ve got lined up for the weekend playtime!

Instead of launching a fresh Elden Ring character, I opted to dive back into Dark Souls 3. The unveiling of Irithyll of the Boreal Valley, a place familiar to many, left such an impact that the game now has me thoroughly captivated.

On Push Square’s Forums, I’m making good progress towards my New Year’s Gaming Resolutions. Specifically, I plan to conquer Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1, released March 1997) and Cool Boarders (also PS1, from January 1997). My ultimate goal is to finish a total of twelve PlayStation 1 games from 1997 by the year 2025.

I’ve resumed my review tasks, but aside from that, I’ve been deeply engrossed in Civilization VII on PS5, attempting to arrange a multiplayer session with a friend. The game has immense promise, however, we’ve encountered frustrating bugs and synchronization issues that have limited our progress to about 70 turns thus far, an issue that has recurred several times. Interestingly, there are no such problems in single-player mode, suggesting that it might need some time and patches to iron out these glitches. Now that I’m getting a hang of the major changes, I’m beginning to believe that this could be a groundbreaking addition to the series. Sid Meier and Firaxis certainly know their stuff!

The secret I want to share is my recommendation to try out the demo for Promise Mascot Agency. This game offers a unique blend of ideas that left me captivated, although it may not appeal to everyone at first glance. The demo lasts only 80 minutes, which provides just the right amount of time to experience the storyline, explore its open world, manage mascots, and more. While it might be an acquired taste, I strongly suggest giving it a try!
