Unveiled is the initial Unreal Engine 5 project by Obsidian Entertainment, boasting impressive technical prowess and stunning artwork in every direction. The PC version performs smoothly across various hardware configurations, offering numerous adjustable settings. Additionally, the game caters to ultrawide monitor users as well.
It’s exciting that an increasing number of developers are launching games with ultrawide display compatibility. However, in the game Avowed, this feature is limited to gameplay sections only. Fortunately, the modding community has taken action, and a patch developed by Lyall now extends ultrawide support to include cutscenes within the game as well.
Fixing the Avowed Ultrawide Cutscenes Issue
In simpler terms, Lyall’s modification eliminates the letterboxing (or black borders) seen in Avowed’s cutscenes, ensuring a uniform viewing experience for those using ultrawide monitors, whether they’re playing the game, watching a scene, or participating in dialogue sequences.
As always, installing the patch is a fairly straightforward task:
- Make sure Avowed isn’t running
- Head over to the following GitHub link
- Here, click on either Steam/Battle.net or Xbox under Installation to download the patch for the client you’re playing Avowed on.
- Extract the zip file in the game’s installation folder.
After being extracted, Avowed will accurately display cutscenes in ultra-wide format too. Occasionally, you may encounter a few unusual frames, but generally, the repair functions as intended. Lyall has provided a snapshot demonstrating how a cutscene appears with the patch applied.

All acknowledgements are due to Lyall, who developed and tested the fix. Their valuable input has significantly benefited PC gaming enthusiasts. You can discover more about their work on their Patreon or Ko-fi profiles.
If you wish to remove the patch, simply delete the files that came with the zip file.
It’s unlikely that developers will add ultrawide support to their games right away, as this is not standard practice yet. Many scenes in games are filmed for standard aspect ratios, and although ultrawide monitors are increasing in popularity, it may take some time before all games offer full compatibility with them.
Apart from a small oversight, the PC version of Avowed, powered by Unreal Engine 5, is generally robust. The game skillfully employs its engine, and here’s a guide on acquiring all divine abilities in Avowed once you’ve navigated through the cutscenes.
In terms of minor flaws aside, the PC version of Avowed, running on Unreal Engine 5, is predominantly sound. The game effectively utilizes its engine, and here follows a guide on obtaining all divine powers in Avowed post-cutscene navigation.
