Pope Francis‘ health has taken a turn for the worse.
The 88-year-old is experiencing a severe, prolonged respiratory emergency that resembles an asthma attack, and has been treated with high-flow oxygen. His health status remains critical, as reported by the Vatican on February 22, over a week after the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church was admitted to the hospital.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d say: “I’m sharing an update on the Pope’s health situation. Today, some tests showed low platelet count, or thrombocytopenia, which is often linked with anemia. This necessitated a blood transfusion. Despite this, he’s staying alert and spent the day resting in an armchair. However, his comfort level has decreased compared to yesterday. At present, we’re maintaining a cautious outlook on his recovery.
On Valentine’s Day, the Pope was taken to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital due to a lung infection. Subsequent examinations revealed that he had contracted double pneumonia.
Since 2013, the current pope has had a tendency towards recurrent respiratory illnesses. Back in 1957, he suffered a serious infection in one of his lungs that required surgical removal of a portion of it.
Before the Pope experienced his respiratory issue, his medical team had expressed on February 21 that it was likely he would need to stay in the hospital for the entire upcoming week at minimum.
At a press conference on February 21st, Dr. Luigi Carbone stated that while the patient is not in immediate danger, it’s important to remember that he is like other fragile patients, as maintaining their stability requires a careful balance. Even a small change could potentially make his condition unstable.
Currently, the Pope’s public activities have been postponed until February 23, with no additional appearances planned at this time.

Currently, the Pope’s public appearances are on hold until February 23rd, with no further appointments arranged as of now.
The health emergency he’s facing has sparked discussions about his possible resignation as Pope, but Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin has stated that these rumors are baseless.
Currently, all our attention is centered on the wellbeing of the Pope, his speedy recovery, and his swift return to the Vatican. These are the sole aspects that truly matter, as stated during a recent interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on Feb 22nd.
