Last month, Aspyr made Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles available on contemporary systems, however, if you’ve been patiently waiting for a potential physical copy, your wait is over! Not only will there be a physical release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox, but there will also be a stylish collector’s edition for those who prefer something more exclusive. The standard version will retail at $34.99, while the premium edition will set you back $79.99. The additional cost comes with some extra items inspired by both the game and the movie The Phantom Menace.
Limited Run Games is responsible for managing both the standard and deluxe versions of this game. Given their past work with Aspyr’s Star Wars titles, this arrangement isn’t unexpected. Similar to previous releases such as “Star Wars Episode I: Racer,” “Star Wars: Bounty Hunter,” and “Jedi Power Battles,” the collector’s edition will arrive in a box adorned with a foil stamp. This box showcases the Battle Droids utilized by the Trade Federation. Included within is a Battle Droid pin, which can be either folded or stood upright. The collector’s edition includes not only the game itself but also a commemorative Droideka coin, a certificate of authenticity, an 12×16 poster, and a metal figurine depicting Obi-Wan Kenobi as he appeared in Episode I. In addition to console versions, there’s also a PC version available for the collector’s edition.
Back in the year 2000, I got my hands on “Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles” – almost an entire year after its theater premiere! The modern version you can find today is remarkably similar to the one that graced PlayStation and Dreamcast back then. It still delivers that classic 1-2 player local co-op experience, and it’s loaded with the outrageous cheat codes that were all the rage in those days, such as Big Head Mode. Can you believe every game in 2000 seemed to have a Big Head Mode?
In the world of Jedi Power Battles, I’m thrilled to share that there are some refreshing tweaks! Unlike before, where we fans had to unlock iconic characters like Darth Maul and Queen Amidala, these heroes are now ready for action from the get-go. The developers have also introduced a host of new playable characters, such as Tusken Raiders, Ishi Tib, and even Jar Jar Binks! To top it all off, they’ve given us an option to make Lightsabers film-accurate, so Mace Windu wields his iconic purple Lightsaber from Episode II, instead of the blue one he had in the initial game. These changes are making my Force-sensitive heart skip a beat!
You can now place pre-orders for both the regular and deluxe versions of “Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles” via the Limited Run Games website. This is an extended pre-order period, however, delivery won’t be immediate; expect the standard version in July and the collector’s edition in September. Keep in mind that this open window for pre-orders will shut on March 23rd at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
