Microsoft Rewards Changes: Xbox Game Pass Subscriptions Get More Expensive!

If you’ve been reaping benefits from the Microsoft Rewards program, especially for your Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, be aware that Microsoft plans to claim a larger share of your reward points.

According to Pure Xbox, Microsoft is sending emails to its Microsoft Rewards members who use the auto-redeem feature to convert points into Game Pass subscriptions, informing them about upcoming modifications.

Per Pure Xbox, the email begins:

Beginning on April 20, 2025, we’ll be ending the automatic redemption of Microsoft Rewards subscriptions for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Core, and PC Game Pass. This decision comes from a rise in the number of Microsoft Rewards points required to purchase these subscriptions with Rewards points. However, you can still utilize auto-renewal for these services; just remember to pick a new Rewards auto-redeem option after April 20, 2025, when your current subscription expires.

I had to go over it a couple of times as the phrasing wasn’t fantastic, but here’s what I think it’s trying to say: The existing auto-redeem subscription is being phased out, but the auto-redeem feature itself isn’t being abolished. Instead, there will be a new, costlier auto-redeem option specifically for Game Pass products in its stead.

In the United Kingdom, at least, these price hikes have been announced. The cost of Game Pass PC will increase from £7.75 to £10.50, and Game Pass Ultimate is set to rise from £12 to £17. This represents a significant increase in cost.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that these are the rates I observe as a tier 2 member. It’s likely that level 1 members will also experience significant rate hikes, although the specific figures might vary.

What’s the reason behind Microsoft’s actions? It seems they’re trying to make it more challenging for users to get Game Pass for free with their points, probably because a significant number of people are taking advantage of this offer.

If you don’t manage to do it yourself, you’ll probably need to spend real money on it, won’t you? For now, you can still exchange it at the current rates, but if the information in the email from the original report is correct, you only have about two months left.
