If you didn’t catch the news recently, Xbox is currently fine-tuning its artificial intelligence capabilities with the help of Ninja Theory’s failed game, Bleeding Edge. The ultimate goal is to develop video games leveraging generative AI technology in the future.
The company hasn’t effectively presented a convincing application for its project called Muse, although it is proposed that it may assist game developers in creating various gameplay ideas more swiftly, or oddly, as Phil Spencer suggested, it might be utilized to save games. However, industry experts have swiftly dismissed this impractical notion.

Currently, it seems that CEO Satya Nadella is attempting to spark interest among shareholders and attract more investment funds. He’s disclosed that Microsoft intends to create a library of games leveraging the technology available.
During the Dwarkesh Podcast discussion, he expressed a goal they were pursuing: “Can we create games using gameplay data that not only remain consistent but also offer variety in their representation and stay resilient to user modifications?” That’s essentially what they’re working on.
In the demonstrative video featuring AI-made Bleeding Edge, the game appears to run at 2005 YouTube quality resolution with approximately 10 frames per second. The player is subsequently given the ability to manipulate objects within the game and make them interactive elements.
Satya Nadella articulated that they intend to educate their AI further by exposing it to a broader range of software, aiming to integrate these learned capabilities within their gaming platforms.
He announced excitedly that we’ll soon be introducing a collection of games based on these models, either by using them directly or training them first before we can play them.
As Microsoft moves towards using third-party publishers, it’s quite likely that the technology they employ will find its way into PlayStation 5 games. So, keep an eye out for those exciting developments!
Despite global skepticism, Nadella can’t hide his enthusiasm about the outcomes.
He grinned, exclaiming: “The first time Phil Spencer demonstrated it to me, he had an Xbox controller and a device that took the input from the controller and produced the corresponding output. It matched perfectly with the game, and it was a huge ‘wow’ moment. It reminds me of when we first saw ChatGPT generate complete sentences or Dolly draw or Sora, this is one of those extraordinary instances.
It appears that worries about artificial intelligence are growing more intense, given its potential to weaken human ingenuity, possibly by means of plagiarism. It’s important to note that these models have been educated using the creations of actual people, whose contributions often remain unacknowledged.
As a gamer, I can’t help but notice the similarities between the hype surrounding the metaverse and NFTs a few years ago, and the current focus of massive corporations like Microsoft on Artificial Intelligence (AI). It seems that every investor is eager to hop onto the next big trend, and AI is undoubtedly it. I can’t wait to see how this unfolds!
