In response to Phil’s (Steve McFadden) recent hospitalization on EastEnders, Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) found himself facing the repercussions of his latest decisions.

During the 40th anniversary week of the BBC soap opera, Phil nearly ended his life in a precarious situation. However, after Grant hurried away, Phil was persuaded to seek professional assistance when his long-time friend, Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), disclosed his diagnosis of early-onset dementia.

On a brand-new morning, when Albert Square had undergone a transformation never seen before, Grant and Nigel found themselves being greeted by Billy (Perry Fenwick), Honey (Emma Barton), Teddy (Roland Manookian) and Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway).

Nigel shared Phil’s situation with the whole family, but Grant continued to harbor a shameful attitude towards his brother’s mental health issues. He wasn’t pleased that Nigel had disclosed this information to everyone.

Yet, Nigel didn’t hesitate to express his displeasure, openly showing that he felt let down by Grant for leaving Phil at a crucial moment.

In a huff, Grant made his way towards the hospital, where he ran into Bianca Jackson, who was tending to her newly-arrived niece, Julia.

Bianca persistently scorned Grant over his persistent behavior and past actions towards his deceased wife, Tiffany (Martine McCutcheon). However, Grant remained unmoved by her comments.

Upon Grant’s visit with his former wife, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), she gently reminded him of the recent passing of Martin Fowler (James Bye). However, she pointed out that despite this, there was still a bond between them as he had his brother remaining in his life.

Eager to set things straight, Grant decided to accompany Nigel and visit Phil in the psychiatric ward. However, Phil blatantly dismissed Grant’s efforts to engage in casual conversation.

Phil clearly communicated to Grant that he preferred Nigel to fetch a warm beverage instead of him, expressing his desire to distance himself from Grant, who hadn’t stood by him for quite some time.

Is it possible for Grant to mend his relationship with Phil after the harsh words exchanged, or has their strong bond as brothers been permanently broken?

As the week unfolds, it becomes clear that Grant is going to discover Nigel’s health issue. In time, he plans to extend an invitation for Nigel to relocate to Portugal with him. Will Grant depart from Walford by himself, or will his trusted companion, Nigel, accompany him on this journey?
