New Super Mario Games Rumored for Nintendo Switch 2’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

Only seven other potential Nintendo Switch 2 games have been officially announced aside from a new Mario Kart thus far, but that’s likely to change soon, as there’s anticipation for more content geared towards Mario enthusiasts beyond just another Mario Kart game. Fueling this speculation is the persistent chatter about an upcoming 3D Mario title, and recent rumors hint at even more Super Mario games being released this year. Given that it marks the 40th anniversary of Super Mario, such a development wouldn’t be all that unexpected.

Initially appearing in Donkey Kong back in 1981, the popular character Mario didn’t receive his own game until 1983 with the release of Mario Bros. The original Super Mario didn’t make its appearance until two years later, in 1985, when Super Mario Bros. was launched. It is now 40 years since that initial launch of Super Mario Bros.

During this anniversary period, Nintendo has been rather reserved about their Super Mario festivities. However, a recent rumor, originating from Mr. Nintendad’s Instagram account, suggests that Nintendo may not be silent due to lack of content. Instead, it is said that they are simultaneously developing celebrations for Super Mario’s 40th anniversary and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Regrettably, the rumor only goes so far, leaving much to be desired in terms of details. At present, there’s no solid confirmation about upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games, but fans are hoping for a sequel to 2020’s Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which collected Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. It’s also plausible that something linked to the Super Mario Bros brand, perhaps even the original game itself, could be in the works.

regrettably, the talk about Nintendo hasn’t given fans anything more concrete than guesswork – remember to approach it with caution, since there’s no solid history to support these recent assertions.

Unfortunately, the chatter around Nintendo is just speculation at this point, and it would be wise to treat it as such due to the lack of a proven track record backing up these new allegations.

At present, Nintendo has yet to offer any official response regarding this recent rumor and the buzz it’s generated. Given Nintendo’s traditionally tight-lipped approach to unsubstantiated reports and speculation, it’s unlikely that they will deviate from this stance. However, should anything change, we will promptly amend our story accordingly.

In the midst of all this gaming fun, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the 40th anniversary of Super Mario! What do you hope to see from this monumental occasion? For those who crave more info about the potential Nintendo Switch 2, follow this link to keep up with the latest updates.
