Pokemon Multiplayer Game Reportedly Leaked Before Pokemon Presents

It appears that a multiplayer version of the upcoming Pokemon game could have been prematurely disclosed before this week’s Pokemon Presents event. The Pokemon Day presentation, scheduled for February 27th, is believed to primarily feature the unveiling of Pokemon Legends: Z-A and possibly the debut of the starters for the 2025 Pokemon game. However, there are expected to be additional announcements and surprises beyond just Pokemon Legends: Z-A, one of which might involve the introduction of a new cooperative Pokemon multiplayer game.

Prior to the upcoming Pokemon Presents on Thursday, a reputable Nintendo leaker named Pyoro shared an image of a synapse on social media. One might wonder how this relates to Nintendo, particularly Pokemon. The connection lies in a significant hack of Game Freak last year, followed by a data leak, that revealed a Pokemon game codenamed Pokemon Synapse. As per documents directly from Game Freak, Synapse is the code name for an upcoming multiplayer Pokemon spin-off game. This new game seems to be jointly developed by both series creator Game Freak and ILCA.

Currently, there’s no concrete evidence suggesting that Pyoro’s tease is related to Pokemon or Pokemon Synapse. Even if it seems like a hint, it should be approached with caution because the source has shown to be both reliable and unreliable in the past, which means it can’t be fully trusted. In essence, the source lacks consistency.

In the world of Pokémon, multiplayer games and spin-offs aren’t unheard of, but it’s been challenging for Game Freak and Nintendo to make a significant mark in the multiplayer realm, particularly in a conventional sense. While Pokémon Go was an unprecedented success, and the latest Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is gaining traction, there’s still no traditional multiplayer game that has become a hit for the franchise. It remains to be seen if Pokémon Synapse will fill this gap.

Currently, none of the involved entities – Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, Game Freak, or ILCA – have spoken up regarding this recent speculation, and it’s unlikely that they will anytime soon.
