DC Studios leaders James Gunn and Peter Safran have revealed discussions with Rocksteady and NetherRealm about fresh DC video games. The realm of gaming offers a vast landscape for giants such as DC and Marvel to thrive. In essence, it’s a well-worn phrase, but it is the platform that enabled Warner Bros. to promote the Batman Arkham series with the catchphrase “Become the Batman”. Beyond simply being enjoyable to play, these games offer new narratives for these characters and immersive experiences for players. The Batman Arkham games marked a groundbreaking era for superhero gaming, laying the foundation for games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and others.

View Urgent ForecastA brand new game featuring Wonder Woman is under development, and we’re hoping to see more iconic DC characters receive their own superhero games soon. The Flash was rumored to have had a game canceled due to the poor reception of his latest live-action movie, but there’s optimism for another opportunity in the future. As usual, Warner Bros. appears to be focusing on Batman as a new game is said to be in production at Rocksteady, although specifics about the project remain limited and may stay that way for quite some time. However, James Gunn’s work with DC centers around a unified universe encompassing film, television, and gaming – something that hasn’t been attempted before.
New DC Universe Video Games in the Works; James Gunn Has Met With Rocksteady and NetherRealm
James Gunn hasn’t given detailed insights yet, but it seems we might expect additional games that carry forward the storyline from the movies or follow a separate path instead of re-enacting them as movie tie-ins. Recently, at a DC Studios event, James Gunn and Peter Safran discussed with press, providing some clarity about their approach to game development. They’ve held talks with developers NetherRealm (of Injustice fame) and Rocksteady (known for Batman Arkham games) regarding potential future projects in the DC universe, and they are now consulting on these various games.
According to Safran, we have a very tight working relationship with JB Perrette who oversees that particular division. This is something new at Warner Bros. James and I often meet with the heads of our studios such as NetherRealm or Rocksteady, under JB’s leadership. We discuss characters and stories that pique our interest as well as theirs.
In the initial phases of our projects, Gunn explained, we discuss potential designs and narratives. He might suggest, “Perhaps you’d prefer this direction as we’re considering developing a particular character.
According to Gunn, we can expect to see DC Universe video games within the next couple of years. He didn’t provide any specific details, but with Superman not appearing in his own game for almost two decades, fans are hoping that this might be an opportunity for him. Given Gunn’s love for gaming and his affection for the character, it seems plausible that he could develop a game bridging the gap between his first film and a potential future Superman 2. However, it remains uncertain which studio will produce such a game.
Regardless of their specific roles, it’s encouraging to see Safran and Gunn so engaged. Here’s hoping this participation results in improved, reliable DC game productions. Following the Arkham series, DC has faced some challenges. Fans have been eagerly anticipating _Injustice 3_ for nearly a decade now, and both _Gotham Knights_ and _Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League_ were less than perfect. While we’ve learned that more Batman games are on the way, it would be fantastic to see other DC heroes receive high-quality games as well.
