The One Piece anime took a hiatus in October 2024 to boost its animation standards and avoid the anime following the manga too closely. It’s set to resume with fresh episodes in April. In the meantime, Toei Animation has given fans a refreshed take on the Fish-Man Island Arc. The One Piece anime is frequently criticized for its slow pace, often compressing an entire chapter into one episode, leading to complaints about sluggishness. Given that the Fish-Man Island Arc consists of 51 chapters and episodes, it has garnered criticism from fans due to its length.
Apart from this, the art style in the anime underwent a substantial shift following the time-skip, and many viewers have expressed their disapproval due to the inconsistency. To address this issue during the anime’s hiatus, Toei decided to air a revamped version. This reimagined version boasts improved animation and rhythm, spanning across 21 episodes – roughly half of the original length. The remastered Fish-Man Island Arc is set to conclude in March, allowing fans to finally witness the eagerly awaited Egghead Island Arc. During its run, the show has also included one of Luffy’s most memorable scenes yet.

One Piece’s Fish-Man Island Arc Includes Luffy Knocking Down 50,000 Fish-Men
Although Luffy activated his Conqueror’s Haki during the Marineford Arc, he didn’t fully grasp its control until Rayleigh instructed him. This skill, known as Conqueror’s Haki, is a unique talent that not everyone possesses naturally. But when employed effectively, it can be remarkably powerful. Unlike other characters in the series who can use basic Conqueror’s Haki, only a select few have demonstrated the ability to fell 50,000 Fish-Men just by standing still.
*Luffy’s newfound ability, known as Conqueror’s Haki, enables him to overpower others by imposing his will upon them. This power is particularly effective against individuals whose resolve is weaker than Luffy’s. Luffy’s remarkable growth over the past two years has been evident, ever since his brother Ace’s demise, as he has dedicated himself tirelessly to training. The Conqueror’s Haki holds significant importance within the story, being bestowed upon those who harbor aspirations for royalty. Luffy is among the top Haki users in the series, joining other legendary pirates like Shanks, Roger, and Whitebeard.*
Even though he’s not as powerful as others at this point, this display clearly indicates that he’s on his way towards becoming a leader. In the late stages of the Fish-Man Island Arc, approximately 100,000 rebellious Fish-Men launched an attack against the Straw Hat Pirates. Despite the apparent disadvantage, Luffy simply needed to stand there and managed to eliminate half of them single-handedly. The remaining 50,000 fought the crew directly but ultimately suffered defeat.
What makes this instance memorable isn’t just the multitude of adversaries involved. Ordinarily, Fish-Men possess ten times more strength than a typical human, and they exhibit raw power without any formal training. Luffy’s ability to overpower numerous Fish-Men demonstrates how his willpower has significantly grown since his training. Nonetheless, even they are no match for the future Pirate King.
