And on the 13th day, he rose from the dead…
Essentially, what happened is that Duolingo claimed it was a hoax when they stated that their mascot, Duo (previously known as The Duolingo Owl), had passed away. However, just about two weeks later, this supposedly deceased owl unexpectedly reappeared on the language learning app.
In a February 24 Instagram video accompanied by the lively track “HE’s Back X Gojo [VVV] (VVV)” by Sanikwave, Duolingo briefly summarized the owl’s demise and then showed the animated bird miraculously returning, with the lyrics, “Heeee’s back!” suggesting its revival.
“Faking my death was the test,” Duo cheekily wrote in the caption, “and you all passed.”
Fans expressed their opinions about the company’s newest move within their popular promotional strategy, following the reappearance of their beloved mascot.
As a devoted fan, I’d put it like this: “I might’ve suggested a more casual approach, but given your recent resurgence, the intensity was truly fitting, if not necessary.” (Cheez-It on Instagram)
In response to someone remarking, “Faking one’s death to check who genuinely cares, quite the icon,” I, as a lifestyle enthusiast, might have said, “Just living life with flair and panache.
Despite the investigation into the owl’s apparent demise appearing to be concluded, the path towards its possible resurrection proved to be an exciting adventure. It all started when the company announced the supposed end of the owl, which even attracted comments from celebrities like Dua Lipa and Joe Jonas on social media.
In a post on Instagram on February 11th, Duolingo shared the sad news that their beloved mascot, previously known as The Duolingo Owl, has passed away. Currently, authorities are looking into the cause of death and Duolingo is fully cooperating with them. In all honesty, it’s quite possible he waited patiently for you to complete your lesson, but we can only speculate.
The following day, the company disclosed the reason behind Duo’s demise by posting a video showing an owl being hit by a Tesla Cybertruck and subsequently flying towards heaven’s gates.
Prize goes to anyone who finds out who was driving,” the company wrote on their Feb. 12 Instagram post. “We appreciate your understanding as we navigate through challenging situations together.
Overjoyed as an obsessed fan, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief now that those tough times have passed. It’s heartening to know that Dua Lipa, who posted on X (previously Twitter) on Feb 12th with “Til’ death do us part,” and a broken heart emoji, can now find some peace in her heart.

Fans were left utterly puzzled following the disclosure that Hello Kitty isn’t actually a cat. Jill Cook, an executive at Sanrio, clarified to Today on July 18th that Hello Kitty is in fact a young girl from London’s suburbs, with parents, a twin sister named Mimmy, and a fondness for baking cookies and making friends. This wasn’t the first time this information had been shared; anthropology professor Christine R. Yano, author of ‘Pink Globalization: Hello Kitty’s Journey Across the Pacific,’ made the same point to the Los Angeles Times in 2014. Yano explained that Hello Kitty is a cartoon character, not a cat, and while she does have a pet cat named Charmmy Kitty, Hello Kitty herself never walks on all fours but rather as a two-legged creature. Other intriguing facts about Hello Kitty? According to Sanrio, she stands at five apples tall, weighs three apples, was born on November 1st (making her a Scorpio), and dreams of becoming a pianist or poet.
Wow, here’s a trivia for you! Did you know this detail?
Bill Farmer, the man behind Goofy’s voice for many years, shared an interesting reason why Disney’s character Goofy can speak while Mickey Mouse’s pet Pluto cannot.
In an episode of the Popcorn Podcast with Leigh Livingstone and Tim Iffland, airing in August 2024, it was revealed that Goofy is not exactly a dog, but rather a member of the canine family. This is similar to how a wolf isn’t a dog, yet they are both part of the same family. So, you could think of Goofy as a “Goofus Canis” or a “MOG,” which stands for man-dog.
However, Pluto, he added, is a “regular dog”—a blood hound as it turns out.
Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants, revealed in a 2005 video that Squidward Tentacles is actually an octopus rather than a squid. He explained that he chose the octopus for this character because they have large heads, which fits well with Squidward’s intellectual and pompous personality.
To address the question of why Squidward has only six legs instead of eight, Hillenburg stated that it was easier for animation purposes to draw him with fewer tentacles.

It was surprising to discover that Blue, a character from the show, was originally meant to be a cat, as revealed by co-creator Angela Santomero in the 2006 special “Behind the Clues: 10 Years With Blue,” which was recently rediscovered by Mental Floss. Originally, his name was Mr. Orange, but they eventually decided on Mr. Blue instead.
However, it’s worth noting that the unique concept had Nickeloeon developing a series centered around a feline character, which caused the initial idea for Blue to be discarded. Instead, the animators opted to transform Blue into a canine.
Interestingly enough, you might find it intriguing to know that the character Doug Funnie from the animated series “Doug” almost had a different name – Brian. The reason behind this change, as revealed by creator Jim Jinkins in 2014, was because he felt Brian was too extravagant. Instead, he opted for a more ordinary moniker, Doug, to reflect the average perspective he aimed to express through the character.
In the book “Monsters, Inc.: An Augmented Reality Book,” it’s been uncovered that the character Boo, who befriends Mike and Sulley in the movie, is named Mary Gibbs in the story. Interestingly, this name shares a connection with the actress who voiced Boo in the film, as it’s her real-life name too!
To add to the evidence, there’s a scene in the movie where Boo is seen sorting through her drawings, and if you look closely, you can see “Mary” written at the top of one of the papers she’s handling.
As for characters’ names, you may know Mickey Mouse’s partner as Minnie Mouse, but interestingly, the BBC disclosed back in 1942 that her complete name is Minerva.
