What’s the view from your sofa?
Our lives are now centered around our child, which means I’m seldom available because of that! Typically, I handle the mornings while my partner takes care of night-times. If I’m not employed, I’m in bed by half past eight and up with the little one at six o’clock.
Do you and your wife ever get to spend time as a couple?
Instead of attempting to leave home for dinner and a show, they prefer to indulge in dining experiences and catch a performance. If you happen to be in Las Vegas, don’t miss Absinthe – it’s incredible, almost like an adult-themed Cirque du Soleil. And The Years, recently moved to London’s West End, is hands down one of the best shows I’ve watched in a while.
Anything you’ve liked on TV recently?
As a cinephile captivated by unique storylines, I found myself drawn to “The Penguin.” Although I’m more accustomed to action-packed superhero tales, Colin Farrell’s compelling performances in In Bruges and The Banshees of Inisherin piqued my interest. To my surprise, the movie wasn’t what I anticipated!
What captivated me was Farrell’s portrayal – his distinctive stride and the subtle, intriguing blink of his eye. Despite playing an outright villain, he managed to evoke sympathy, making you root for him all along!
After spending quite some time in Scotland for the shooting of The Rig and your latest Amazon Prime Video thriller, Fear, are you enjoying being back home?
For the past couple of years, Wild Mercury Productions, responsible for both series I work on, has kept me busy. They’ve made a significant financial commitment to Scotland, and I feel proud to be involved in it. “Fear” was shot in the West End of Glasgow, an enchanting location. The filming site offers a stunning view of Kelvingrove Park, and I got quite excited because many Celtic football players reside nearby and I often spotted them walking their dogs.

The house is a character in itself. Would you like to live there?
Does the portrayal of parents’ worst fears in these dramas strike a chord with you, as a father? Or, are you, as a father, able to relate to the intense emotions portrayed in dramas focusing on parental nightmares?
As I grow older, I find myself becoming less self-centered and striving to make decisions that benefit my family above all else. I think most people can understand the desire to provide a better life for your children and the dread of losing them. My character Martyn and his wife, Rebecca, are falsely accused of heinous acts that no parent should ever have to face. It seems nowadays that if someone labels you as something, it sticks without any evidence or chance for rebuttal.
In a new production titled “Fear,” Anjli Mohindra takes on the role of your spouse, while Daniel Portman is also part of the cast. Interestingly, all three of you have previously worked together on “Vigil.” Would you say that working together again in this new project brought about a sense of reunion?
In another movie, I didn’t make it past the end credits, but I spotted Dan from afar and Anjli’s character attempted to revive me. Since then, we’ve grown quite close and aim to get together whenever we’re both in London.
You also still keep in regular touch with the Line of Duty gang, don’t you?
Jed Mercurio plans to visit me in Las Vegas, and he’s keen on playing golf, which isn’t my strong suit. I might hit some balls and grab dinner instead. Additionally, I frequently chat with Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar – we’re all part of a WhatsApp group.
Do you get tired of being asked about when it might be coming back?
Of course, I’d be disheartened if the day comes when people no longer ask about it. I take immense pride in it, and I’m overjoyed to see that it has left a significant mark.
I understand the importance of managing expectations. Right now, we don’t have any news to announce. As soon as we do, rest assured, you will learn about it directly from us, and we’ll be thrilled to fill you in on the details!
