Due to recent news suggesting that NetEase might be withdrawing from its international financial commitments, there’s been some speculation regarding various studios it had previously invested in. One of these studios is Rebel Wolves, developers of The Blood of Dawnwalker, where NetEase has a strategic partnership and holds a small percentage of ownership.
Tomasz Tinc, Rebel Wolves’ co-owner and chief publishing officer, recently posted on LinkedIn to dispel any doubts, sharing that the studio is thriving, and the production of The Blood of Dawnwalker is completely financed. Development is moving forward as planned.
1st off, I want to express my gratitude for the heartwarming messages and well-wishes that have come my way. Our game’s creation is moving along nicely and we don’t encounter any financial difficulties at this point.
Thanks to our funding, the creation of ‘The Blood of Dawnwalker’ is underway! We collaborate with Bandai Namco, our worldwide publisher and valued partners, to breathe life into the initial installment of the ‘Dawnwalker’ tale.
It’s important to note that even though NetEase holds a smaller portion of shares in Rebel Wolves, it’s been stressed that the significant majority of the studio belongs to Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and fellow co-owners.
According to Tinc’s statement, most shares of Rebel Wolves belong to Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and other studio partners who also work at Rebel Wolves. However, NetEase only holds a small percentage of the shares in Rebel Wolves.
The collaboration between Rebel Wolves and NetEase was first revealed in November 2022. Since that time, the studio has also joined forces with Bandai Namco to publish “The Blood of Dawnwalker.” As a result of this agreement, Bandai Namco will be responsible for promoting and selling both physical and digital editions of the upcoming RPG.
In October 2024, Tinc expressed that Rebel Wolves, a studio established on strong pillars – expertise and vigor – was forming an ideal alliance with Bandai Namco. Known for its commitment to role-playing games and openness towards fresh ideas, Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe mirrors our wolfpack’s spirit. Moreover, its history of publishing story-focused RPGs is impressive. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with them to unveil the initial tale of the Dawnwalker series to gamers across the globe.
Established fairly recently, the creation of Rebel Wolves was unveiled in February 2022. Comprised of developers who have previously contributed to hit AAA RPGs such as “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” and “Cyberpunk 2077”, Rebel Wolves is currently working on their own open-world RPG titled “The Blood of Dawnwalker”. Although a launch date has yet to be set, it’s been confirmed that the game will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Lately, the development team has been discussing distinctive features of this game, including a time constraint within the game itself, which encourages players to advance the story and hone their time management abilities. Additionally, they’ve been highlighting the idea of a “narrative playground,” where the story unfolds.
Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the creative director, has previously mentioned that the game “The Blood of Dawnwalker” will offer a more compact open world compared to what players may have anticipated, mirroring his personal preference for games featuring smaller game worlds.
