Ruby Franke's Husband Asks Her to Stop Contacting Him From Prison

Ruby Franke’s husband is setting boundaries.

A year following the YouTube family vlogger’s imprisonment for four counts of aggravated child abuse, with a minimum sentence of four years and a maximum of 30 years, shared Kevin Franke, her estranged husband, about the current state of their family of six children.

In a conversation with People magazine, which was released on February 25th, Kevin shared that the last letter he received from her, who is currently in prison, might have been around March or April of the previous year. Subsequently, he asked the Department of Corrections to halt further correspondence between them.

Kevin admitted, “I didn’t want to hear anymore. I didn’t like what she was saying.”

Despite not revealing specific details about the contents of his estranged wife’s letters, Kevin explained his reasons for no longer being able to maintain a correspondence with her.

“I’m very angry,” he shared. “I’m still very angry.”

As noted of his wife’s attempts to reach out, “It just didn’t feel right and it didn’t feel good.”

Kevin and Ruby are nearly finalizing their divorce at this moment, with Kevin stating they are close to coming to an agreement. Although he continues to harbor affection for his spouse, he finds it impossible to overlook the pain she inflicted on their kids, as well as himself.

Kevin stated, ‘There are certain barriers you can’t pass over and return from,’ which means some things in life are non-negotiable. He further explained, ‘She has destroyed our connections, so I am choosing to move forward. I will make decisions that benefit my children, my family, and myself, and those choices won’t involve her.’

Since Ruby’s sentencing one year ago, it’s not just Kevin who’s been sharing his thoughts. Ruby’s eldest child, Shari Franke, aged 21, has recently penned a memoir titled “The House of My Mother“. In this book, she recounts her experiences growing up in an abusive home, focusing on the period following Jodi’s move-in.

Shari clarified that when Jodi joined the scene during their January 7th interview on Good Morning America, she could definitely sense a change. “The dynamic became increasingly psychological,” she added, implying it had an adverse effect on her, making it even more harmful.

After receiving her sentence in February 2024, Ruby apologized for her wrongdoings, attributing them to a “deeply troubling illusion.” However, her family members find it challenging to grant forgiveness given the circumstances.

Shari expressed her doubt to People magazine on January 2, stating that she believes the person may never truly grasp the implications of their actions,” or more casually, “On January 2, Shari told People that the person might not fully realize what they’ve done.” She also hopes that this individual can receive the necessary help.

In a public statement, authorities in Utah disclosed that they had received a report of a severely undernourished child being discovered. The child, who looked extremely skinny and malnourished, with open wounds and tape bound around their limbs, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

It was later discovered that he was the 12-year-old son of YouTube personality Ruby Franke, as reported by NBC News based on an affidavit. The boy had been at the residence of Ruby’s business partner Jodi Hildebrant and managed to escape through a window before seeking help from a neighbor’s house, according to the document.

The two females received concurrent sentences totalling four terms, each ranging from one to fifteen years. However, these sentences cannot exceed a maximum of thirty years according to Utah’s laws.

Authorities made public her disturbing diary excerpts, detailing her abuse towards her kids, particularly her 12-year-old boy whom she described as being subjected to Satanic treatment.

In a journal entry dated July 10, 2023 (her son’s 12th birthday), she wrote: “He moves quietly and secretly searching for chances when no one is around, then he quickly disappears. If he aims to imitate the savior, he must be completely devoted without any deviations or concealment.

She wrote about punishing her children by beating them and withholding food and water.

Investigators’ conversation with Kevin, recorded after Ruby’s arrest, was made public by prosecutors. In the recording, Kevin discussed the supposed limitations he encountered at their home.

In an audio recording from TopMob, Kevin expressed that he was subjected to a set of restrictions: he could leave whenever he wished but couldn’t re-enter without Ruby’s consent, he wasn’t allowed in the kitchen to eat unless given permission by Ruby, and the upstairs where Jodi resided was off-limits. Essentially, he felt like his own house had become inaccessible to him due to Ruby’s rules, which also dictated when and how their interactions would take place.
