Bandai Namco announced the latest DLC fighter to kick off the second season.
But who is Anna Williams, and what moves has she kept and learned for this Tekken?
Tekken 8 Anna Williams New Drip
In the conversations about Tekken that you might have come across, you may have noticed the name ‘Anna Williams’ frequently mentioned. Ever since its release, fans have been eagerly demanding her inclusion in a potential Tekken 8.
Initially snubbed, the sister’s trailer was suddenly unveiled together with her anticipated release dates. Starting from March 31st, Tekken 8’s character Anna Williams will become available through early access, while the rest of us can get our hands on it starting April 3rd.
Additionally, there were three additional hidden characters and two unique stages in the lineup. Wow, Bandai Namco, you’ve really outdone yourself! But with the introduction of Anna Williams in Tekken 8, she gets a fresh new appearance. However, I’d wager my last five coins that her original red Chinese-themed outfit will be available for purchase at the Tekken store.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, she’s rocking her Tekken 7 Black Widow costume, complete with a fresh drip. The outfits and color combinations are on point, really fitting her character well. However, her new hairdo has me feeling a bit conflicted. It looks like she’s gone through some sort of midlife crisis with that red and black dye.
Surely, let’s aim for a more sophisticated hairdo instead. Additionally, it appears that her repertoire involves a greater variety of weaponry in this version. Similar to Anna, about half of her Heat Engages are now guns. However, the emphasis seems to be on Lovely Tom (her grenade launcher) in this round.
Indeed, she has begun incorporating this tool into her everyday moves, similar to Negan’s bat in his famous scene, but with a twist of her own. Moreover, we observe recurring techniques like the CBT stomp and evasive hop kick in her style.
But until we get a hands on her frames we cannot say where she lies on the tier list.
Not Daddy’s Favorite
In the original game Tekken 1, Anna Williams, accompanied by her elder sister, first appeared. Defeating Nina’s arcade mode granted you access to play as Nina across all versions until Tekken 4. However, she resurfaced in Tekken 5 and 6, only to be demoted to downloadable content in Tekken 7. Now, Anna Williams is set to return in Tekken 8 once more.
As a gamer, I’m often compared to Nina’s Ryu counterpart as the Ken, but let me tell you, my gameplay style is uniquely mine. Just like Nina, I’ve got a strong low-attack mixup that keeps opponents guessing, but I’ve also got my own signature moves. In Chaos Judgment, executing B+3 grants me an edge with both offensive and defensive capabilities, making me capable of countering grabs and attacks similar to Jun.
As a player, I’ve noticed that she’s got some killer Okizeme with those rolling heel and heel grind moves. However, in the older games, she seems to be lacking in pokes and there are far too many missed highs, which can make gameplay a bit tricky.
Despite appearing simpler than Nina, it’s essential to note that Anna isn’t like Paul in terms of playability ease. Furthermore, the latest Tekken 8 Anna Williams unveiling hints at her being even more intricate. While Anna isn’t the most challenging character to manage, mastering her does require some fine-adjustments.
That old proverb of give her a few lab sessions and see if she fits.
