Gunko’s Betrayal: The Revolutionary Army’s Traitor in One Piece’s Elbaf Arc

In the “Elbaf Arc” of the popular series “One Piece,” some new members of the Holy Knights were unveiled, leaving viewers eager for more in the captivating climax. Although Garling Figarland was already known, the rest of the team had been shrouded in mystery until now. In Chapter 1134, Gunko and Shamrock make their entrance in Elbaf through a Summoning Circle. Their initial intention was to recruit Loki into the Holy Knights, but Loki harbors deep-seated hatred for the Celestial Dragons. He instead uses the opportunity to ridicule both Gunko and Shamrock before outright rejecting their offer. As expected, the pair didn’t come with benevolent intentions. Gunko resorts to coercion to get Loki on board, but it fails to sway his decision. Moreover, Shamrock has a sinister plan to bring down Elbaf itself.

Although Elbaf, the most powerful nation globally, remains disconnected from the World Government, it’s not an alliance but rather a secluded, peaceful kingdom. However, the arrival of the Holy Knights foreshadows potential turmoil for this serene land. Shamrock aims to capture the kids of Elbaf, but his intentions seem more sinister than he reveals. Meanwhile, in ‘One Piece’, there’s growing unrest in Elbaf, and a subtle hint has been planted suggesting that Gunko, living in Mary Geoise, the Holy Land, might be a traitor.

It’s fascinating, isn’t it, how several captains within the Revolutionary Army sport a distinctive look reminiscent of Gunko – complete with a hat and goggles. I can’t help but wonder if there’s a connection between him and these captains, given his past as a former member who seemingly fell from grace and joined the Holy Knights.

Gunko May Be a Traitor From the Revolutionary Army in One Piece

A fan of One Piece has come up with a theory based on observations about a character named Gunko. This theory suggests that Gunko might be a member of the Revolutionary Army, as she wears goggles over her hat, which is a common trait among several members of this group. Characters like Koala, Sabo, Morley, Belo Betty, and Lindbergh are also part of this roster. An intriguing detail is that when Gunko was introduced, her name was just “Gunko,” while the manga revealed the family names of all the other three Holy Knights introduced in this arc. This is unusual because if she were a Celestial Dragon, her full name should have been displayed. However, since it’s only speculation about Gunko at this point, this theory also aligns well with the simple naming schemes often seen within the Revolutionary Army in One Piece.

Each Holy Knight is generally expected to hail from the ranks of the World Nobles, but exceptions like Loki do occur and may not be unique. What’s less surprising, perhaps, is Gunko’s recruitment given her background with the Revolutionary Army and her subsequent betrayal of her people. Her impressive strength and powerful devil fruit ability make her stand out among her peers, as does her air of arrogance that surpasses even that of other Holy Knights or Celestial Dragons. Furthermore, Gunko often reminds Loki of his good fortune for being accepted among the divine beings.

Gunko Would Not Nearly Be the First Traitor in One Piece’s History

The creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, frequently incorporates characters who turn traitor into the plot to add excitement. In the Egghead Island Arc, a new character named York was presented, one of Vegapunk’s associates who betrayed everyone in pursuit of becoming a Celestial Dragon. This suggests that there may be other individuals similar to York, eager for increased power.

Although a traitor among the Revolutionary Army could add intrigue, it might diminish the believability of their cause since their primary purpose was to oppose the World Government under Monkey D. Dragon’s leadership. It’s quite unexpected for someone in their ranks to then aspire to join Mary Geoise’s royal guard.
