As a dedicated fan, I’ve got to say that the Steam Deck, created by Valve, has truly made a significant impact! While they haven’t been too forthcoming with recent sales figures, we do have some insights into its impressive performance so far.
According to a report from The Verge, market research firm IDC suggests that more than 3.7 million Steam Deck devices have been sold globally by the close of 2024. This figure could mean that the number has already surpassed the 4 million mark at present.
According to industry analyst Lewis Ward, the Steam Deck represents more than half of all handheld gaming PC hardware sales in 2023 (over 50%) and approximately 48% in 2024. As estimated by IDC, a total of over 6 million units of handheld gaming PCs have been sold to date.
In just eight months since its debut in February 2022, the Steam Deck managed to sell more than a million units. A year afterward, Valve revealed that sales of this device surpassed the milestone of multiple millions.
According to Valve’s previous statements, they plan to develop further versions of the Steam Deck. However, they have made clear that a Steam Deck 2 won’t be released unless there’s a significant improvement, or “generational leap”, suggesting that we may need to wait a considerable amount of time.
